I need to pull the engine, or at least subframe, in my 2008 S6 to replace the starter motor. Buying that car was a financially terrible idea. But hey, yolo 🥲I’ve watched my next door neighbor ( one of my black friends) go through 4Jettas and one Audi A6….in 11 years.
When one Jetta breaks beyond his skill to repair, he junks it and buys another. Biggest waste of money, but he loves ‘em.
Interestingly, the frequency of failures on them has allowed me to teach him some wrenching skills. Before we moved in, he knew really nothing…not even how to change oil. After a $100 oil change on his first Jetta, I showed how much oil and filter cost Asked me show him how to do it himself.
11 years later and he’s doing brakes, plugs and coils, power window repair….and more.
Gotta hand it to those Jettas..they encouraged learning repair skills in him.
ivic is a tin can that is ultra reliable. It's like my ultra reliable Prius. I hate to drive it but it never lets me down. The Wolfsburg made GTI is an awesome car till it's broken. The Germans put Lucas electrical (Lucas the prince of darkness) to shame with their terrible products.

My first car was a 73 MGB with wire wheels and chrome bumpers. I had the lights turn off on an unlit road in the middle of the night in 1983. That was the end of that car. It was a very fun car.I remember my 1977 MGB had a Lucas electrical system in it. Constant issues with it.
Finally put in an Allison electronic ignition, and solved many of the breakdowns.
Man that was a fun car.

That's the one thing I like about Toyota's and Honda's, and their luxury equivalents. You can run most of them into the ground and they will still work.
There's a Tesla shop near one of the sites I work at that doesn't appear to be sales, just service and repair. It is always packed with cars. I've done a carbon clean, spark plugs, fuel injectors, coil packs, oil pan gasket, water pump and I should probably do the head gasket (and while I'm there, 1000 other things). Trying to avoid scope creep though
Mechanically they are solid. Intake flaps are a weak point, probably a long with said starter motor. No chain guide issues like the S4 V8 (though I should probably replace that if I'm doing an engine-out)Thought about the V10 S6 before thinking probably not a great daily if I want something pretty reliable lol.
I've been pretty lucky with my B9 A4. Nothing has gone wrong so far besides wear and tear.
