Let us log in and create a user. The plan is to make this user a schema by creating at least one object for it. So let us login. I'm going to refer to this user as "Tst," referring to the word "test," which is "tes t createuser test," identified by "test five, six, and seven." What this means is that test will be the name of the user that we create again. Tst. Okay, the "identified by class" refers to the method by which this user will be authenticated. Giving a string value like test 567 means that test 567 will be the password for this user. Now, using this SQL Developer window, let us try to connect. Username is test. Password is test. Let me test the connection. So what happens? We are not able to connect because the user has not been given permission to connect to the database, though it has been created. Now, let us grant that permission. Grant connect to test. Now, let's try permission. GrOkay, save the password and connect. So now I see two connections. This one I use for system connections. And this one is the new one.
Let us create a table. Create table example one ID number. What this command does is it will createa table called example one with column IDwhose data type would be number. Let me run it. It fails because the user doesn't have permission to create a table. Now, from this DBA window, let's grant that permission. Okay, let me close this and let me rerun the statement. From this point forward, table example one was created. We will be using this test account to practise most of our SQL commands. If needed, we can discuss grabbing the table.
In this section, we will briefly explore all the DML statements. Knowing the basics of all the DMLstatements will prepare us for subsequent lessonsthat concentrate more on each of these. These statements, as we saw earlier, DMLS areused to work with just the data. They cannot alter the structure of an object. By default, they will have all the DML privileges on their objects. They can perform select, insert, update, and delete on their objects. And no one can revoke the DML privileges from the owners of their objects. They need to have the appropriate DML privileges granted to them. either by the owners or by the DBA.
We have seen the basics of select statements already. In the subsequent lessons, we will explore it further. We have seen that a select can read data from one or more tables, filter the cost columns, and filter the rows. We will also explore sorting, joining multiple tables, and various types of operations.
Let us talk about insert statements. They are used to insert data into tables. Let's take the test users' table. Example one, which we created earlier It has one column called "ID," whose data type is number. I need to use the statement to insert a dot into the test dot.Example One: ID Values One insert refers to the operation, and the target where we are going to do the insert is followed by the name of the target, which is the tabletest. Example one, then the target column name, which is ID here, followed by the values that we would like to insert, which is one. Here. The single quote is optional since the data type is numerical. For character-based data types, it is needed now. Will this work? No, it will not. Let us stop here and explore some DBA information.
The insert doesn't work because the user doesn't have quota on the tablespace where the table resides. As of now, this table, example one, is just a definition. Since it doesn't really have any data, it's nothing but an entry defining it inside the database. This entry is called the metadata for this table. For a table, they will contain details about the columns, data types, et cetera. So in the database profession, you will often come across this term, metadata. It up.
And how do we retrieve this metadata information? We use Oracle's internal objects, which are collectively called the data dictionary. The data dictionary contains hundreds of objects, Jack.
Now, let us go back to the error. When we try to insert the actual data, it has to be stored somewhere, right? Yes, they will be stored in a group of blocks, which are called segments. But where will they be created? in the table space where this table resides. How do we find the table space? Use this sequel. This sequel will reveal where the table resides. Select the owner table underscore name and table space underscore name from the DBA underscore tables where the owner is test and the table underscore name is example one. How? When I created the table, I do not remember mentioning a table space. In fact, this is my create-table statement. Create one table example with one ID number How do I find the user's default table space? I can use the following SQL to find test users' default table space: Select the DBAunderscore users' default username underscore table space where username equals to test. It shows the user's default tablespace is the user's table space. But wait. When I created the user test, I did not specify its default stable space. See the "Create user" statement and the "createuser" test identified by test 567. So how did it get tablespace users as its default table space?Answer: Check the database properties. The following SQL will let us know that the user's table space will be the default permanent table space if we do not specify a table space name during a user's creation. The items selected are from database underscore properties, where the property underscore name equals the default permanent table space.
Let us fix the problem by giving unlimited quotaon the table space users to the user test. The command would be alter usertest quota unlimited on users.
Now let me show you the whole process of fixing the error. Here I have a session where I connected as the user system. This user is a DBA user and has administrative privilege. Let us check the connected user's name by show user system here" test here." Let me show both the screens simultaneously. Right-click here and choose the New Editor tab group. Now let me do the insert from the user test session. It fails because of a permission error in the table space. Now let us go to the DBA window and check which table space this table belongs to. Run this command. It says "users. How? Let us run this command to test the user's default table space. It tells users how to do it again. Now run this command on database properties. From here, we can conclude that users' table space will be the default permanent table space for any users who get created without a table space name specified. Now let us grant permission to the table space users to test. This is done. Now let us go to the Test Users window and run the insert. Success. Let us verify that. Start with test dot example one. Now let us commit. I'll explain commit later. For now, please run the commit.
