Question Speculation: RDNA3 + CDNA2 Architectures Thread

Man I have been dying to make this one for a while now.

First rumours for RDNA3 are here so new thread time!

That info from MLID sources about 7600XT. 18GB speed memory, not 20GB. Like 2-5% perfomance max. Targeting 300-350$, but probably 300$.
8700XT or 8800, if things going right, par on RTX 4080, if not, par on 7900XT.

Bro, MLID?

The thing about the 7600 XT is that there's still some amount of 6700/50 XT out there, roughly in the $330-350 range. Even with a decent clock speed gain, I imagine the 6700 XT would still be decently faster.

I don't think we can expect much better specs than what N32 has within 250mm2.
For 4080 level of performance you would need 47% higher performance than 7800XT.
For 7900XT level of performance you need 31% higher performance than 7800XT.
You would need ~3.3GHz even for 7900XT level of performance.
Then there is still the question about how to feed It without using GDDR7.

As SolidQ mentioned in the above post, Olrak is suggesting reworked WGP. Its possible that it is something similar to GCN>RDNA1 where you were doing more, with less resources.

Thats the only logical possibility that we can have, at the moment, for pretty decent perf improvement.

BTW. Why do we discuss RDNA4 in RDNA3 thread?

Good question. At least It's still about GPU architecture and even from the same vendor.
BTW, I am more in line with >3GHz clocks than higher IPC or much smaller WGP compared to RDNA3.

Heat equals lower chip cost when compared with higher IPC. They'll always prioritize heat if they can get away with it. Clocks are also something they can tweak to reach a specific performance point. Meanwhile IPC means the cost is already sunk into the silicon, performance (or lack of) needs to be sold or lost. Balancing clocks and size is not an easy task, it's always about choosing the less risky path.

Higher clocks means that they get more performance out of the same die space, so better price/perf.

AMD didn't even bother using 20gbps GDDR6, that could have increased performance somewhat.
Honestly, this is not a good card for that price, It has worse perf/$ than even RTX4060Ti 8GB, the only card worse than this is RTX 4060Ti 16GB.

If the 7600XT is on the same silicon as the RX7600. That is 7nm silicon known as 6nm. They should have it on the standard 5N (5nm) silicon.

LLMs. It appears AMD is targeting specific audience with this GPU and it might not exactly be gamerz.

Heh, NV increased the price by 100$ more for 8GB on the RTX4060Ti and now AMD increases the price by $60 for 200MHz and 8GBz more.

Those cards from both camps should have been at the sub $200 market.

RX480 4GB was $199 and the RX480 8GB was $239 which is 20% more.

$269 + 20% is $323 so in terms of what AMD did prior it sort of tracks.

Regardless though the reality is there is no way this will sell well. Sure 16GB of VRAM is nice and it will have longer legs than the 4060 but the performance will be pretty similar in the here and now and I don't think AMD can swing a 10% premium given the 4060 is better in RT and has DLSS which is far more usable at 1080p than FSR.

At the same $300 it would be much better and the 7600 can drop to $250 as well. Give it a month and that is what I expect to see tbh.

EDIT: Does not look like N43 though...

What if... another 8 GB of VRAM costs 32$ in BOM?

Would that 60$ price increase look ... different?

Current price of GDDR6 is 4$/1 GB. 8 GB in capacity - 32$. So memory alone for 16 GB VRAM is 64$.

Problem is that 16GB is an overkill for this level of performance.
12GB would have been better, but that can't be used with 128-bit bus.

BTW, AMD asked only $20 more for extra 4GB with RX 6500XT 8GB.
