Intel had 2.5 billion in revenue in the quarter just on desktop alone. That's like 20-25 million units. Even a million in retail CPU sales wouldn't even be 5%.

Well, at Mindfactory 87% of CPUs sold are AMD, so we re not talking of the same thing, for Intel it s forcibly negligible.

With Kraken, they'll have a cost advantage in the mainstream due to it being a monolithic design versus MTL/ARL/LNL tiled approach with expensive packaging.

Kraken for mainstream and Sonoma for budget will be a 2 punch against Intel. RPL 282 won't compete with Sonoma and MTL/ARL 282 won't compete with KRK. Intel saving grace will be their unmatched volume.
Its going to suck real bad for South East Asia consumers if its all Intel again for high end laptops just like every other year

That $2.5B is part of the "Total DT market" as you were saying.
How many 13900k, 14700k, 14900k and even lower such parts bought by OEMs for commercial DTs ?
Surely not much, and same for AMD DTs, 7800X3D wich amount to almost 25% sales at Mindfactory is not that widespread in commercial offerings, most comercial DTs dont even have a dGPU, that s mainly low end CPUs by AT forum standards.

Not that many. There are gaming desktops sold but dunno how much volume we are talking about. At least in my experience, the big seller is the cheapest i5, followed by the cheapest i3.

As for AMD, I imagine even on desktop... Cezanne is #1 in sales.

Same here. OEMs have a fetish into bringing Intel only options. While the share of AMD laptops has drastically increased, they still stick to up to Zen 3 + Vega SKUs. I'm hoping next year they'll bring Kraken based designs due to Intel having no viable alternative in the space

Watch them bring MTL/ARL-U based designs and try to claim they're KRK competitive

I am not an expert in laptops, but I thought the 7840U and the 8840U were (could be a little off on the model numbers) were right up there if not in the lead in laptops ??

Sadly, not where I live. I can find Intel ADL and RPL designs in abundance. And even some MTL-H expensive designs already.

But for AMD designs, there has been not a single release of a PHX (Zen 4 Ryzen 7000) or HWK (Z4 Ryzen 8000)based laptop design here. The best it can be found is Rembrandt. Everything else is Ryzen 5000, 4000 or Mendoccino (7520/7320).

So I really hope OEMs bring Kraken based designs this time.

Edit: Actually, there has been a release of 7840U here. But it was with ROG Ally and Legion GO (The handheld gaming PCs).

the advantage really is the 1t perf.
Right, that's true. Compared to MTL/ARL-U, KRK will have 1T and MT, GFX, perf/W, battery life and cost advantage. There's really no comparison with Intel options for mainstream next year.

Intel will have to offer OEMs MTL/ARL-U for RPL 282 prices to even be competitive. And I'm not even sure if they'll actually have the very high volume advantage they used to have.

You re sounding like a scratched record, how many time did people tell you that in a DT a dGPU will have an order of magnitude better AI perf than any NPU integrated in a mobile dedicated APU..?..

At the end you are just spaming the thread with redundant and already answered questions.
It was a response needed since only mobile variants were mentioned regarding NPU. And DT PCs are not always paired with dGPU. You should know that by now. But you’re sounding like a broken record about it.

Yes, but what about Zen5 DT PCs?
Stupid of AMD to include NPU on Zen5 mobile CPU variants then.

Zen 5 DT won't have an NPU and thus won't support AI PC without a dGPU. But it shouldn't matter. Let's recap Windows 12/24H2 AI PC strategy that should premier at May Build:

Q - What's Windows AI PC:

It's a new Windows update that will unlock ground breaking Windows features enabled by the power of AI, alongside a marketing push for Windows PCs enabled by AI.

Q - What are the requirements for Windows AI PC?:

45 TOPs total system minimum. On mobile devices, from the NPU, preferably, for low power AI features such as Windows Camera Background Blur, Sound Supression, AI Explorer, Personal Co-Pilot on Device and much more.

Q - How can I identify Windows AI PCs?

PCs with Snapdragon X, AMD Ryzen 9000 and Intel Core Ultra 2XX*/V/MX200 will be AI PC enabled.

Q - Why would OEMs adopt AI PC?

Not only Microsoft will be spearheading a new marketing push for AI PCs sales, but OEMs with AI PC designs will get price rebates on Windows license. AI PCs experiences will be available at multiple price points.

Q - Why would AMD, Intel or Qualcomm dedicate silicon for a 45 TOPs NPU?

Windows AI PCs will get a big marketing push, price rebates on Windows license and be at the forefront of the new cycle of Laptop PC sales following Windows 10 End of Support and 3 year purchase cycle from COVID boom.

Q - Do it Yourself Desktop Users who want AI PC experiences without being attached to an Laptop. How will they be able to get it?

They can buy an dGPU that meets the minimum system TOPs. Or can replace their system with Intel Arrow Lake which will have ~70 TOPs total, with 16 - 20 TOPs from the overclocked SoC NPU and ~50 TOPs from the brand new TSMC N4 Xe LPG with XMX units. But Desktops aren't the focus of Windows AI PC marketing push.

* Intel Core Ultra 2XX - U series won't support AI PC experiences. (Unless @adroc_thurston can share some light at whether ARL-U will also get the N4 refreshed GPU tile and/or higher clocked NPU)

It's just a cool part.
Well, you can always count on ASUS to bring a ROG Strix with AMD.
