  1. Discussion Apple Silicon SoC thread

I think you are misunderstanding that sentence. N3B and N3E are both N3 "3 nm", but N3E is an improved version of the 3 nm process for boosts in performance and/or power efficiency. According to the analysts and the experts here, N3B is essentially dead soon. In fact, that's probably partially...
  2. Discussion Apple Silicon SoC thread

? Are you suggesting the next chip series will also be N3B? If so, you're pretty much the only person that believes this, and no, Mark Gurman didn't claim this.
  3. Question ðŸ‘‘Apple: The OLED Roadmap👑

Sounds like informed speculation. Anyhow, rumour has it that BOE tried but failed to meet Apple’s quality metrics for dual-stack tandem OLED the last time around, hence they are not a supplier for these screens for Apple this year. Hopefully they’ve tightened up their manufacturing standards...

I don't know how accurate this would be, but knowing that the width of the chip is roughly 18-20% wider than the height, I plugged some numbers into this die per wafer calculator, using the default settings for the last 3 variables: 13.22 x 11.11 mm = 146.87 mm2 = 415 dies
  5. Discussion Apple Silicon SoC thread

I didn't do any calculations myself, but FWIW, the 146 number was published by Tom's Hardware, referencing a tweet from @Frederic_Orange who counted 415 M3 dies for a 3 nm wafer: https://www.tomshardware.com/software/macos/apple-spent-dollar1-billion-to-tape-out-new-m3-processors-analyst...

I summarized the die size estimates for the various M series chips here: http://www.portvapes.co.uk/?id=Latest-exam-1Z0-876-Dumps&exid=threads/apple-silicon-soc-thread.2587205/page-259#post-41200507 M3 is supposed to be around 146-ish mm2 on N3B. >140 anyway. That could suggest a hypothetical M3 on N3E might be over 150 mm2.
  7. Discussion Apple Silicon SoC thread

Well, some might argue that M3 (8-core CPU, 8/10-core GPU) would already effectively be A17X, like A12X/Z (8-core CPU, 7/8-core GPU). M3X would be A17XX? ;) BTW, I wonder how much it cost Apple to move A5 from 45 nm to 32 nm. I also wonder how much it cost Apple to split A9 between Samsung 14...
  8. Discussion Apple Silicon SoC thread

I read an article on manufacturing somewhere saying a realistic time frame from receipt of chips to laptop units on store shelves in volume is roughly 3 months with large Chinese manufacturers. (This was for laptops not iPad Pros, but I assume it would be similar.) What volume of chips are you...
  9. Discussion Apple Silicon SoC thread

They must have some meaning to Apple of course, but they have not always meant what we thought they meant, because we're just guessing. Educated guessing, but guessing nonetheless. Anyhow, this ID thing has been discussed literally for months now on other forums and several ideas have been...
  10. Discussion Apple Silicon SoC thread

None of that is evidence. As much as I’d like to have an M4 in my potential 2024 iPad Pro (basically just for bragging rights since I don’t need the performance), everything in that report (besides the statement that new iPad Pro models are coming) is just speculation, on top of Mark Gurman’s...
  11. Discussion Apple Silicon SoC thread

It's so strange that you love quoting things that contradict yourself. Just to be clear for those who may have not seen the older posts where this was ALREADY stated: Apple never dropped its M1 Air price to $700. However, also as mentioned before, Apple laptops have frequently gone on sale at...
  12. Discussion Apple Silicon SoC thread

Thanks for finding that quote of mine. To quote myself in that very post of mine you linked:: 400 days is just over 13 months 500 days is around 17 months The point is like Macs, Apple wasn't locking itself into a yearly cadence with the iPad Pros. They are willing to extend past a year...
  13. Discussion Apple Silicon SoC thread

Stop trying to change the goalposts. I'll quote my own post, one you in fact quoted yourself: BTW, The M1 MacBook Air has been discontinued. The current "low priced" model is the M2 MacBook Air, and the list price is still $999. There still remains no such thing as a MacBook SE.
  14. Discussion Apple Silicon SoC thread

    I wonder how much cheaper it will be to manufacture M4 on N3E than would be to manufacture M3 on N3B in 2024. M1: 16 billion transistors, 119 mm2, N5 M1 Max: 57 billon transistors, 425 mm2, N5 M2: 20 billion transistors, 142 mm2, N5P M2 Max: 67 billon transistors, ? 510 mm2, N5P M3: 25 billion...
  15. Discussion Apple Silicon SoC thread

You haven't been paying attention. As I've said previously, when Intel had yearly CPU releases, sometimes Apple would adopt those chips yearly, and sometimes they wouldn't, the point being Apple wasn't wedded to a yearly Mac release schedule, even when the chips were available to adopt as...
