This is the second time I had by oldest 3700X rig crash in the last 2 weeks. Non responsive to terminal, ssh and boinc remote. I suspect some hardware failure is in my future. It's my dual 1080Ti rig. I need it to last another week.

I'm guessing the inability to upload completed data or get new Amicable tasks is expected at this point?

I'm having no issues currently. Mine are uploading and downloading like clock work so far.

Have you checked your preferences settings?

It all worked on computer 1 on Saturday when I pulled down 20 jobs, set a host file entry for sech.me and processed them all. I have removed the host file entry, and I can traceroute to sec.me without an issue.

On computer 2, I added the project... but now that I look at it, that boinc install isn't detecting my GPU. *sigh* may not fix that one tonight.

After setting LLC to high its still doing it, even skipped Turbo and went for Extreme where it did it again almost immediately on boot up. Removed my soundblaster and it hasn't crashed in hours. I only hope its only that thing. I had plans to get usb phones so if it was the soundblaster good damn timing

Once the host file is fixed if you go under 'transfers' in BOINC Manager and select one of the tasks and hit 'Retry now' it seems to get them transferring at least for me. I'm guessing it waits to retry after so many failures or something, but I'm not 100% sure. I don't know if that would affect your ability to get new tasks, but maybe depending on how many you have already pulled down?

Boinc seems to have cashed something. I restarted the client and amicable immediately started working correctly. Gave up on getting boinc to see the 1080ti on the other pc for the night - GPU options don’t even show up in the GUI, so it may not be a quick fix. Worst case, i leave the 1080ti on F@H.

@Endgame124, a shot in the dark:
If id boinc shows boinc to be member of group "boinc" only, then try:
sudo usermod -a -G video boinc
After that, restart the boinc service, or reboot.
I don't remember whether or not this is actually necessary, but give it a try.

Keep an eye on your Rosetta rigs. I've got a new task that's taking 2.6 GB of RAM!

Since i added in WCG tasks, not as bad on the usage. I did just turn on monitor to find all nothing but rosetta and no WCG tasks even if i did set up 7 tasks for it in my profile on WCG. One is waiting on memory with 91% overall usage. The rig is maxed at least but yeah its a close one. Not a task touching 1gb here.

I sat here thinking ok with WCG tasks usually essentially using no memory, i could maybe calm down on my 64gb idea and save $230 odd bucks and just do a doubling of my 16gb kit then idk when a task can use up to 2.6gb it just reinforces the idea just to go all out on the 64gb.

Certainly going for the 64gb but for a second i was convinced, i am annoyed WCG has ignored the rule of 7 tasks at a given time for this. Sometimes it seems to wanna work on those and other times its non stop Rosetta. I felt so bad few are giving to WGC i wanna keep the tasks maybe perm but when i am not issued any......

The decisions from which project to request how much new work, and which of the queued tasks then to start (or stop to start others instead) are happening locally in the boinc client, based on a variety of criteria. (Very long-term criteria, such as which projects hasn't been run much during the past few weeks or so, and shorter term criteria, e.g. which tasks might miss the reporting deadline if they are left at the bottom of the queue for much longer.) Just like you have observed, these client-side decisions are neither transparent nor intuitive.

The setting at the WCG website which you are referring to is acting on the WCG server side: The server will not let the client keep more than 7 tasks buffered.

Mere minutes after that post, suddenly i got 7 tasks running going for WCG. Memory usage dropped down to 55%. Was hoping work was non stop for WCG, keep the rest of my system in check so to speak instead of hopping on here to find system ram usage at 91%. i could adjust the client some more but i always set it up for 12gb of usage. Maybe a bit much given the os needs room too maybe i will drop it down to 11gb usage? Never in my life pushed a 16gb system past 10gb and that was with BF5 going.

Getting into the mindset of why so many people have so much more ram then me, its like unlocking pandoras box over here.

Jeeper's bulletin #8:
"City Run (Universe@Home)
The first decision has been made. TSBT clearly took gold. But the most incredible scenes took place behind it. TAAT must have fired a rocket in the butt, because their speed at the end was gigantic and left a trail of devastation on the Green Planet. TAAT thus wins silver and can be happy about the first medal in the Pentathlon. P3D will be a bit bummed, because it has 'only' gotten bronze. Hopefully this will pass soon. Congratulations to the trio!"

Plus analyses of the Marathon, the start of Cross Country — "A powerful trio has already gathered at the top with TAAT (#1), TSBT (#2) and SG (#3)" at 11 UTC —, overall standings, and the obligatory three good questions.

Tried it, but no luck. I had about 30 minutes to work on it including installing the ram. Ran out of time, but at least the ram is upgraded

Should amicable numbers be showing up in my boinc project list? Want to make sure my points get counted in the pentathlon, and currently I only see my points on the amicable site

PSA from the organizers:
The hosting company of the Pentathlon website has scheduled a 1-hour downtime for later today. *If* the outage happens during the finish of City Run and start of Cross Country, SETI.Germany will acquire stats through a backup server and update the Pentathlon site afterwards.
This outage ended up lasting less than an hour as planned, and did not affect any of the full-hour stats updates as far as I have seen. I never even noticed the Pentathlon site to go offline.

Another outage is scheduled for Wednesday.
Today's PSA from the organizers:

"Due to network maintenance in our hosting provider's computing center, the Pentathlon website will be offline for up to 60 minutes between 18.00 UTC and 01.00 UTC.¹ During this time, the statistics cannot be updated. If this happens to affect the initial update for the third day of Javelin Throw at 0.00 UTC,² a backup server will fetch all the data and we will add them afterwards. However, as this requires manual database intervention, this might happen with a few hours delay. If another update fails, all credits will be counted automatically with the next successful update."

Immense cooler!
Btw that web page, the sizes in inches & mm don't match, I don't know which one is right but I hope you've looked at its dimensions on the makers site.
e.g newegg says 4.79" is 163mm, but it's actually 122mm, or the other way around 163mm is 6.4"! lol. A big difference!
I would contact them, but I don't have a newegg account.
