All Florida Counties that used the butterly ballot should re-vote

Not to put a spin on this conversation and turn it into a speech on the politics of citizenship but....we really should stop letting immigrants so EASILY get their citizenships until we can take care of those who were born here properly. We just tend to let far too many people become American citizens. Look at other countries policies on this and see if i'm wrong. We can not be everything to everyone,and can not save the world from their own contreception problems. We are already overpopulated with people born in America. So don't complain when you are angry becausew it took too long to turn your green card into a certificate of citizenship. This is the way it is and if it does not suit your needs,we are not begging for anyone to jump our borders.

The people getting the citizenship have lived here for 5 years, are permanent residents, are paying federal/state/local taxes, and have to register with selective service just like citizens. They are not going anywhere, so it's not a question of supporting more or less people. So the only reason not to give them citizenship is to keep them disfranchised. It's taxation without representation. And if you think we have too many immigrants here, why don't you ask hi-tech company heads what they think. There is not enough people to fill all the jobs. If you take out the immigrants doing the crapwork and techwork, this economy would come to a standstill.

Sorry if my rant offended anyone. I just can't hold back my feelings when someone complains they could not get American citizenship easily enough. As though its a right and a given. Its not! Back to the original thread topic. It amazes me that all REPUBLICANS who know George W. lost fair and square are so opposed to counting all the votes for all the candidates that they were intended for. If the shoe was on the other foot i'm sure their opinion would differ,but....This country was founded on the assumption that every ones vote counts and according to G.B. this is not the case. Just because these people had a problem with their ballots does not make them stupid and to those who disagree. Too bad. They still have the right to make their vote count for whom they INTENDED. Stupid or not. Not to who they accidentally chose due to a technicallity. And to those who say that there were 14k ballots in 96' that did not get counted,I say.YES,You Are Right,BUT THE VOTE COUNT WAS NOT DOWN TO 200 OF THOSE 14k VOTES AND NOW IT IS. So they do need to be counted properly because that is what the people say and in a democracy that is where and what it comes down to.
[EDIT]Sorry SuperTool,I was not bashing you personally as I do not know you but,citizenship is not a given and the goverment needs to be very selective with whom they give it too. I'm sure you do deserve yours but there are those who do not.

Well the way I see it it that 22,000 people didn't vote right (19,000 invalid and 3000 mistaken), but over 420,000 people voted correctly. So how can 1% of the people mess up. I don't blieve that their should be a revote because of one county. Just because a small portion of the county made a mistake that doesn't mean they should get to do it over. Let's say you accidentally run a stop sign and a cop pulls you over. I doubt you can tell the cop Oops I made mistake let me go back and do it again. It doesn't work that way. So they should just figure it out next time and quit whining about it.

veryape - I've applied for citizenship and am now waiting in a very long line for it to bwe processed. I married an American, so I only had to be here for three years before applying. It is frustrating that it takes so long before the process really even starts. If it was the time to do the background check, I would understand. It's the time to even open the file and then the big delays in each stage that is poor.

In order to be a disenfranchised voter, you must be deprived of your right to vote. The folks in Palm Beach County were not. They were allegedly confused by the format of the ballot. That's it! Nobody was their holding them back, physically preventing them from going into the booths. They had fair advance warning, complete instructions in front of them, time enough to finish, and they all pulled the trigger, making the decision final. I sympathize but there's no way any sane person would overthrow an election due to confusion.

Veryape, somehow you have missed out on what America is. America is still a melting pot, whether you like it or not. And here is what I have to say about your immigrants: they work hard, are productive, and deserve a chance to succeed here. The same can't be said for the millions of welfare recipients in West Palm Beach, Dade County, Los Angeles, etc. These people contribute nothing but hate, drugs, violence and ignorance. If we could somehow convince them to quit listening to Louis Farrakans and Al Sharptons of the world (Al Gore as well), then they might be able to stand up and make it on their own like our immigrants do. Yes, there are those immigrants who end up on welfare as well, but I think it the exception rather than the rule. I have traveled all over this world, and have learned one thing: America is still the land of oppurtunity. But the Al Gore people aren't that optimistic, they would have you believe that everyone is a damned victim of something or other. Wake up people, and take responsibility for yourself!
