I have my 6800XT "tuned" with an overclock on both the GPU clock and memory, along with an undervolt. I get slightly better than stock performance, but at ~200W instead of ~270. Helps with overall temps and fan speeds. I also frame cap some games that don't need high fps to keep power consumption, heat and fan speeds down as well. So far seems to be working great.
This Hellhound is a champ, no need to undervolt. I spend 98% of my time on a 1080 60 TV, so even in silent mode it's significantly more than I need. I always limit FPS because wasted power is wasted. I only use unlimited when testing certain things and only on my ARC cards.

Looking at his test runs briefly, R&C rift apart test run immediately jumps out at me as completely inadequate. It's way too short and in the wrong part of the game, to draw any strong data from. It's why the 4070 is matching the GRE in raster and beating it in RT. When we see the 4070 losing badly with RT at 1440 due to vram limitations in Daniel's testing. For me that one is immediately a throw away.

His R&C test will start at the correct time -

Maybe you're right and his test segment in R&C is too short, although ā€œsliding along the pipeā€ imho fits well for games lacking a built-in benchmark.

Anyways, here is another review from CB, that seem to be in accordance with your point about this particular game.
And yet, this does not change the overall picture which is in line with the other results (eg HWUB, PCGH, Kitguru, those that I managed to look at)

P.S.
Oh... just in case, CB is ComputerBase

Even Computer Base only does 25 second passes. Here are a couple of examples of why that isn't enough. Halo Infinite: it could take 20-30 minutes for the vram to overflow and the textures to turn to low quality mud on cards with 8GB. Calisto Protocol, at least at launch, took longer than 25 seconds to fill up the vram on a 8GB card at 1080, after which performance went to hell. I'd be pretty bent if I bought a card based on reviews that don't test long enough only to find out about the issues the hard way.

Allowing the canned benches to run at least last longer. Though many are a lighter workload than the game itself. With some exceptions like Forza Horizon 5 where the canned bench is tougher than 99% of the game.

All of the reviews have value, often though it's fairly limited value depending on the product and features being tested. Acknowledging those limitations is necessary to prevent overreliance on them. Everyone can rely on whichever sites and reviews they like of course. I am simply sharing the bar they have to clear for me to be happy. As experience has taught me that if it's time sensitive content, to take it with a grain of salt. Aussie Steve using only the reference Radeon left me nonplussed. Did he rush out the content? The Nitro+ he retested with was 11% faster in Spiderman, that's not nothing.

Are you using a GRE or 7800 XT? Would you recommend the GRE? Think it would get a water block?

Currently waiting on ModmyMods to answer that question. I would think the XT blocks should fit. Will confirm if I get an answer.

I am not qualified to answer that. I don't do custom water loops, nor keep up with the scene. Maybe ask over at https://www.overclockers.com/forums/forums/water-cooling.71/

If you don't get a good answer from your current source.

I haven't looked at the PCB layout for the 7900GRE. Until someone does a comparison between the XTX or XT and GRE, it'll be hard to know exactly what's going on wrt waterblocks.

Those definitely don't have the same component and hole locations. The Pure GRE doesn't look the same as the Nitro+ or Pulse either.

Yup definitely different component layout. It's gonna need its own block.

Well I got an answer from modmymods. They don't know either.
But while looking around I came across a sapphire pulse 7900 XT with a real low price. Like 640ish. Which landed me to this.

Needless to say I grabbed it. Said there was 20 available and by the time I hit order was at 13.

I think it's direct from sapphire china. Says it shipped already. 5-7days shipping.
It said 3rd party. SNCstore and shipped by same. But now says shipped by Amazon.

Will see what arrives.

Where did you order that from? It could be a scam, good luck though.

I bought an Asrock Steel Legend 7900 gre. Haven't tried Asrock since a crappy Athlon board years ago but their quality seems to be up. Runs cooler than the 6700 XT it replaced, which while being alright never really impressed me. With overclocking it almost doubles the performance. The new driver does unlock more memory speed, but kind of borked the "Fast Timing" on the Vram as although I can run the memory almost to 2500 now the fast timing seems to crash or artifact at just a few MHZ above he old limit of 2318.
Overclocked in Port Royal I got 12726 with the GRE vs 6525 with the 6700XT. OC in Speedway got 4560 vs 2281 for the 6700XT.

Well talked to Amazon, since it missed it's delivery date, I was willing to wait till EoD Friday the 29th, but the CSR ( i got escalated twice) offered me to refund, and if the product arrives just keep it.

All I was trying to get from them was the initial shipping carrier, my Google Fu landed me on a Chinese shipper called 4PX which averages about 3 weeks.

I even said I will wait until the 29th, and see what happens, I suspect it's shipped from China, then handed off to USPS to then be transferred to my location.

They put me on hold and came back with we can credit you immediately with a credit (gift card) or apply it back to original payment source 3-5 days. (my option) and I had to ask her to repeat it, " I'm sorry ect we will refund the purchase and if it does happen to show up you can just keep it, no need to return."

Unfortunately, I already received the block for a Sapphire Nitro plus card.

To top it off I found another "Amazon's choice" from a different reseller, (assume China) for 703 plus tax. /Facepalm

So I don't know, I will wait a week or two more before seeing about exchanging block.

BTW the one for 703 is on Amazon under FWds shop

EDIT: I assume its on a boat, not an aircraft. I also have no idea about how customs works.

I doubt that will happen for such an expensive item but stranger things happen in life. Hoping you get it "free"
I tried telling them I would wait till the end of this week.
Problem was they couldn't tell me what carrier picked it up. They kept saying it was USPS and I kept saying no that is not their tracking format.

But they came back with the refund now keep if it arrives and I was trying to work at the same time, I just accepted their offer.

Take the refund pronto. You are highly unlikely to get what you ordered from a quick look around. FWds shop is probably the same scammers, and if you look at the feedback it's all one star scam ratings on the first page. I hope I'm wrong. But I surmise CS knows the deal and was offering you the refund to get out in front of the inevitable outcome.

Yea I did, but until then the delivery bar almost made it to "out for delivery" so maybe it's on a boat and will pass off to usps. I'll wait another week. Maybe. See what ModmyMods says about exchanging for another model block.

How can they not know what carrier picked it up. They had to pay someone for shipping. Did you ever try putting the tracking number into one of the other carriers? DHL does a lot of handoffs to USPS for foreign mail. UPS and Fedex drop packages off at post office as well - been a while, one of them has a "1Z" at the beginning of tracking number.
