I saw that earlier and something about it just looks off. It looks to have poor performance running at 30fps. The style of the art just doesn't do much for me and it looks like a flash game or something.

Show as a whole was disappointing as like 1/2 the crap they showed is just remakes/remasters. I can't stand that about the current gen.

EDIT:

That trailer above actually looks to be 60fps. The trailer in the direct did not look that crisp. Makes me wonder if the trailer above is showing the PS5/XBox version.

I agree there looks to be something off about it, like the foreground and background are using different themes or sprite/engines to show the graphics. Like when cartoons were hand drawn, the parts that moved you could tell from a still frame vs the stuff that didn't change in the background.

I think the trailer you posted makes it look quite better than the trailer showed during the direct.

I think it's just filler to get through to the Switch 2's launch.

Unravel 2 is one I played with my daughter and it was great.

There was the new ninja turtle arcade game and a few side scrolling fighter games that have come out too.

It certainly isn’t the focus, however!

Finished Mario Wonder today. I played the whole game 2 player with my son. What a great game. It's on such another level above all of the NSMB games. I honestly didn't like the first trailer I saw for it but I'm glad I ended up getting it because it's fantastic.

Thank you for sharing. Thats a great endorsement and reminded me to pick it up as gift for the kids for Christmas.

So this caught my interest, loved it on the NES and the one one SNES was amazing:
Got me thinking, feels like there aren't many co-op games that share/split a screen anymore for 2players. Either everyone has their own screen/device or it's single player (barring sport games, but hey fuck EA).
Are there more examples of games that are co-op 2 player local for the Switch besides the party and Mario Kart genres?
Minecraft Dungeons and It Takes Two are both available on the Switch. There's also games like Overcooked.

Minecraft dunegons seemed to get SUPER repetitive immediately. Even my kids lost interest in it quickly.

Square just announced a new Mana game (Visions of Mana)... reason I mention it is because it screams Switch 2 launch title.

If it's anywhere near as good as the Secret of Mana 2 rerelease then I'll get it on PC, no questions asked. That was a blast.

Visions of Mana is announced for PS4 and PS5, so a cross platform launch title... IDK, doesn't move the needle much for me. I'd prefer to always play on the most capable platform, and the Switch 2 is likely to be closer to the PS4 than the PS5, not to mention a PS5+ whenever that happens. Physics of a tiny portable console and all that.

That its announced for PS4 means that yes, the Switch 2 should be a platform that can handle it.

My expectations for the ultimate performance of the Switch 2 are quite tempered, however I believe the re-release of MK8 and the two BOTW and TOTK will look amazing and sell another stupid number of copies. What they've squeezed from the Switch potato thus far has been really solid.

Hmm I need to find out if Octopath 2 has any performance hiccups on the Switch or should I just get it for the PS5.

Been playing Super Mario Wonder and have to hand it to Nintendo. I don't know how they can keep Super Mario still fresh 40 years later, but this game is creative as hell and IMO easily the best 2D Mario game since Super Mario World on the SNES way back in 1991. Can't wait to see their next 3D Mario, hopefully this year with the Switch successor.

Yeah the way they basically did something "special" for every stage with the wonder seed, and every single level is unique, is really impressive.

I 100% that game and it didn't feel like a chore, other than the very very last thing I did which was buying all of the stands, which required me to farm purple coins. But aside from that, everything else was just fun to do in collecting all the wonder coins, seeds, flags, and then finishing all the special levels.

Oof, Switch 2 not coming until next year, "at the earliest"...

I’ll choose to believe that they chose an Nvidia chipset and that they are not a priority at all for Nvidia, so they’ll get their chips when they Nvidia can fit them in. Just because that amuses me

If P5+ actually gets launched in Q4 2024 I guess they’ll have the market to themselves? Also, there rumors I’ve not really explored about a PSP successor? Seems like the later the Switch 2 is the more oxygen that plan will get if true.

Delay, if it's real, is more likely because first party launch games are behind schedule.

The only problem is that an very Early 25 launch means they would have to announce the console some time this year anyway. Not exactly ideal.

As for the hardware, you'd be lucky if this uses anything other than Samsung 8 nm. Which should be pretty free right now

It would be really surprising if it gets pushed past April 1, which is the start of the next fiscal year.

Haha, too true on the process front.

I mean, I am hoping for a new product that Nvidia is bringing to market they’ll do it on “leading” edge.

I am being optimistic and pessimistic at the same time!

As for the launch software, all I’d heard is praise about how easy it was to port existing Switch games and ones that ran on PS4 and Xbox One to it, it’s sorta hard to believe that’s where the delay is. Not saying you are wrong but I’d expect a healthy run of “remasters” like TOTK and Bayo 3 ready for day 1 without issue. TOTK especially add some bespoke content - even a touch and Nintendo buyers already indicated they will buy the same Zelda titles more than once. Add a Mario RPG or Metroid for the launch and you are good to go. You can’t miss a whole holiday run when the console only gets 5-7 of them. IMO.
