The Israeli lobbies power in this country is just fucking frightening. That nation is a monstrosity and their influence in our politics is fucking ridiculously insanely scary. A bunch of genocidal Maniacs controlling large swaths of our foreign policy, and our domestic policy as we see with any kind of protest. Amazing

Talk is cheap. Actually holding fire is more challenging.

If there is a deal I'd expect it to hold up. Hezbollah has been reportedly pressing Hamas to take the deal and the Israelis can't afford the political/foreign relations fallout from breaking it anymore.

What I thought...

Report: Hamas Accepts Gaza Cease-fire Deal; Israeli Officials Reject Prospect of War Ending

According to the report, Hamas was guaranteed by the U.S. for a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and that Israeli forces will not continue fighting once the hostages are released ■ An Israeli official told Haaretz that 'Israel will, under no circumstances, agree to end the war as part of a deal' and is determined to enter Rafah

The Israeli government is pretty fractured so depending who they are talking to it might not be the actual story. Waiting to see what happens.

Never ending the war is not really a realistic option that won't absolutely crater what's left of Israel's standing internationally and lead to many more problems. Though going to war without clear achievable goals outside of the Israeli right wanting to murder all Gazans was an obvious problem they were warned about from the beginning. They are a truly fucked country.

If their goal is truly to take this opportunity to wipe out Palestine, a cease fire is an unwelcome annoyance. At the very least their true intentions will be exposed for all to see (that haven't already), if indeed they refuse to stop. Kinda like the US did when faced with facts about the non-existent WMDs in Iraq and complete lack of evidence for Iraqi involvement in 9/11. The Bush admin just kept on lying and making up excuses for doing what they wanted to do. Same as Putin has been doing for 3 years.

Fwiw... their position from leaked policy plan as of Oct.13.

Israeli Intelligence Ministry Policy Paper On Gaza's Civilian Population, October 2023

as reported on and translated by Israeli investigative site +972

Certainly puts their extensive, large scale destruction of Gaza into perspective.

They may tell the US one thing but proceed onto something else as they see fit. Thats Israel for you. Maybe they had a re-think and prefer not to further soil their reputation and shaky standing with world opinion? Who knows?

I've been critical of the government of Israel, which has committed humanitarian crimes against Palestinians for decades. This is corroborated by separate UN reports that Israel furthers a system of apartheid against Palestinians. There is also strong evidence of human rights violations by Israeli troops such as the infamous Netzah Yehuda battalion. The US Leahy Law says we should withhold aid to those who commit human rights violations. I am of the opinion we should restrict military aid to Israeli since it is being used to further human rights violations.

Any institution, or persons, found to be guilty of human rights violations, boycott the shit out of them. I don't care if they are Jewish, Asian, African, whatever. Screw anyone who would further hate. And make no mistake, the Israeli government has long been an oppressor against Palestinians.

It is clear that the government of Israel is rotten to the core. There was still some sympathy from me at the beginning of the war, and while I still believe Hamas is a terrorist organization that needs to be stamped out, any sympathy I feel for the government of Israel is quickly souring and reaching zero.

This is not to say I do not feel sympathy for the people of Israel. I believe most just want peace. But there are many Israeli people who believe it is their right to invade Gaza and oppress the Palestinians living there. That's just wrong.

With that said, I am against any boycotts or acts of violence against Israeli institutions or anyone of Jewish descent simply for being Israel or Jewish. It would be hypocritical of me to advocate for the rights of minorities and oppressed individuals here in the US, and not treat the oppressed in another country the same way. Anyone furthering the system of apartheid fostered by the Israeli government, especially authoritarians like Netanyahu can go die in a fire.

Better yet send them to Ukraine.

These are probably munitions Israel has purchased directly from US industry so they technically belong to them but we can certainly gum up the export works.

It's a meaningful shot across the bow to the Israeli hard right that we can and will cut you off.

Top Secret: In a 2018 letter, Netanyahu asks Qatar to fund Hamas

In letter seen by handful of people, PM urges Doha to deliver $30 million to Gaza monthly, claiming funding Hamas would preserve regional stability and avert humanitarian crisis

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged the government of Qatar to continue the transfer of money to Gaza, in a secret letter sent to the Qatari leadership in 2018 and only seen by a handful of people since. In the letter, Netanyahu explained that the funding would reduce the motivation of terror groups there to carry out attacks, would prevent a humanitarian crisis and was vital for preserving regional stability.

Eventually pursuit of an unachievable war aim (total destruction of Hamas) totally heedless of collateral damage is indistinguishable from an intentional genocide. And that ignores there is a major component of the Israeli government who publicly wants to commit one. I see no reason to aid them in this pointless murderous stupidity. All weapons transfers should cease in the event of a campaign in Rafah.

Seems like we're reached a very perilous moment for the state of Israel. We'll see if Netanyahu wants to walk blindly into the unknown here just in the name of keeping his power.

Quite the curve ball from Hamas. N'yahoo had just been outplayed. If he persists with the Rafah invasion after hostages released with more genocidal acts, the weight of world opinion will be even more crushing for Israel.

Wonder if Hamas has worked out an escape plan with the Egyptians in case Israel forges ahead, ie, pre-existing tunnels that were blocked off earlier.

He let Gvir publicly pressure him into not sending a delegation to Cairo and seems to have let Hamas outmaneuver Israel as a result. It isn't fully clear yet what agreement Hamas said yes to exactly. It almost doesn't matter because they can say "well we agreed to a ceasefire but Israel refuses" before what is likely to be a a very public and very deadly campaign in Rafah.

"The peace deal is a ruse, so we are going to walk away! Wasn't our fault!"

What a crock. If you really thought it was a ruse (they didn't) and really want to keep fighting (they do), you'd call their bluff and be able to point at the ruse and actually have some amount of justification on your side.

You are fooling nobody Israel.
