the actual release date and ETA for preorders is thursday the 12th, but some people got them today. So expect some more over the next couple days of just regular users having them.

So I went with the 8 pro 256GB. Got it through my job for $200, NO trade-in. I can sell my 7 Pro 128GB for more or similar amount than the 8 Pro costs. Win-win.

I hope the 8 Pro's macro-zoom is at least as good as it was/is on the 7 Pro.

It's actually improved. The wide angle sensor for the macro is a solid upgrade over the 7pro, plus I think minimum focusing distance was improved sligthly

I also heard it has macro video now. or is it the Android 14 implemented it on the 7 Pro. I forget. Anywho, I just tested macro zoom video and the 7 pro has it as well. Since my "lost return device" samsung fiasco last year where I swore of samsung phone and got the Pixel 7 Pro for my work phone and fell in love with it I swore I would get the 8 Pro for personal use. Glad I made that decision.

I thought T-mo was going to do a good upgrade deal but alas, they are only offering me 400 trade on my 6. I'd like the better camera but the camera on the 6 is really good. Took this pic looking in the end of an exhaust pipe on a bike and was pretty surprised it was even useful...
Maybe just keep it and move to Mint or a cheap prepaid carrier. The 6 should be getting android 14 when it comes out so that may unlock some new stuff too.

Verge says the pro speakers are finally good after 2 crappy years with the 6 and 7. This was an audio guy, he did not have the regular 8

I miss how my lg g7 sounded. It was great for a phone. Very good sound. I don't know why phones don't focus on this anymore.

Eh I never thought my 6 pro speakers were that crappy, but I’ve never thought any phone I’ve had had that great of speakers so my expectations are pretty low.

Mine shipped today and is arriving tomorrow, gonna be fun to mess around with. Got my screen protector and case too so I’m ready to go.

Guess I won’t be getting my phone today, just noticed it’s being shipped to an old address that I lived at 8-9 years ago. No idea how this shit happens when I’ve ordered stuff from my current address from google quite a few times.

Google has all my old addresses still saved. I've looked a few times and haven't found a way to delete all your old addresses and I've almost ordered big stuff from them to old addresses.

Yeah I was looking through my account settings and all I could find was that my current address is correct so not sure what happened, guess I want paying enough attention when I was ordering it. Called Google support to try and fix it and they just gave me all kinds of wrong info. Told me to call UPS myself and change the delivery which is not possible unless the delivery has been missed and you have the infonotice number from the missed delivery tag. He put me on hold and then said he asked another team and they assured him I'd be able to change it.

He also said my delivery required a signature which is wrong, there was a box to check to require signature during the ordering process, which I didn't check because I've never had problems with packages being stolen. He told me that was not an option and it would require a signature, pretty sure he's wrong but I'll have to wait and see. Guessing it gets delivered to the wrong address, then I'm going to have to fight with support to get a replacement. Dunno how such a big company can not know how UPS works but whatever.

Mine just arrived. I will set up when I get home later tonight. I am going to migrate data from my samsung galaxy s22 ultra as that has the music files (75g) I want to migrate over. I dont know if i'll use the 8 pro as my main phone or my work phone. being it was ordered through my jobs verizon account I have to activate with my work sim and leave it for 60 days to unlock. So I have 2 months to decide.

Currently the 8 pro is copying data from the 7 pro, all done via Wifi. Decided to keep the pixel watch. Once the phone is set up, will then pair the watch and buds. I do have to say the matte finish feels much better in the hand than the gloss, but the flat screen is where it's at.

Yeah I was able to pick up my stuff, it was delivered to the office at my old apartment complex and they were surprisingly lax about it, didn't even ask for an ID or anything. Gonna set it up this afternoon as I'm wfh, hopefully transferring from an iphone works pretty well nowadays.

Initial impressions very good. Little things add up. Better speakers. Flat screen. Can tell the cameras are better. Face unlock that unlocks secure apps. The screen is just much higher quality overall.
I do love the matte back finish. Sure it will be in a case but sometimes I do take it out, that will be nicer. Haptics are great.

Will take a week to feel out the battery and test the cameras more and see about how hot it runs. Did not run hot when doing all the setup, just warm.

Pixel watch, glad I kept it, but they really need to make two sizes. I don't have big wrists, so this is just big enough to work for me, but I want more screen real estate on the watch. The biosensor is off to a good start - tracked my long dog walk this evening with the Fitbit integration. Love media controls, don't need to take my phone out to change tracks or volume when not using true wireless buds.

The Pixel Buds Pro - amazingly small and a pretty decent sound. Love the quick ANC to transparency mode. Custom EQ. will test call quality over the next week. I have some high end earbuds but these are a nice super compact set of buds for taking mass transit and being on foot going in and out of places.
