Question Raptor Lake - Official Thread

Since we already have the first Raptor Lake leak I'm thinking it should have it's own thread.
What do we know so far?
From Anandtech's Intel Process Roadmap articles from July:

Built on Intel 7 with upgraded FinFET
10-15% PPW (performance-per-watt)
Last non-tiled consumer CPU as Meteor Lake will be tiled

I'm guessing this will be a minor update to ADL with just a few microarchitecture changes to the cores. The larger change will be the new process refinement allowing 8+16 at the top of the stack.

Will it work with current z690 motherboards? If yes then that could be a major selling point for people to move to ADL rather than wait.

If I were Pat, I would have instructed them to backport Arrow Lake to Intel 7++++ , just in case the ARL based desktop Core Ultra 9 on 20A misses the mark. They could fit the newer arch on the older process by taking out every non-essential thing and even go for something like 6P+12E without HT. It would be kinda meh in MT but it should theoretically be formidable in ST, at least compared to 14900KS if they are able to clock the backported ARL up to 6 GHz minimum.

NVM, HurlyBird already made the point about what a disaster Rocket Lake was.

Four releases for basically the same CPU. Intel is pushing the bar a little higher every time for Arrow Lake top bin performance. It might come back to bite them.

I dont see this as a problem, or at least it is the same problem for Zen 5. Hopefully ARL will at least be more efficient than 14900k, so if it only slightly improves performance, that would be a win. The real competition for ARL will be Zen 5. If Zen 5 cant beat 14900k, it too will be very disappointing product, but I am expecting that it will have no problem beating 149i00k.

. . . that's not gonna be a problem, given how well Zen4 does against it already.

It is what it is. I'm just having some fun with it.

That won't be a performance oriented part AFAIK. Just for low end peasants where Intel sees a lot of volume.

The fastest ADL/RPL I have is only 4.9GHz so I shouldn't be at risk but it's weird to see a developer blame the hardware (well, BIOS configuration).

If your gaming PC has crashed, giving an 'out of video memory' GPU message, and the system sports a Core i9 13th or 14th Gen processor, such as the Core i9 14900K, then the problem is possibly being caused by the CPU (despite the nature of the error). Certain i7 models, typically the unlocked K-versions, are also reportedly experiencing the problem, though to a lesser extent.

Interestingly, since Intel abandoned the development of their Cryo cooling, EKWB picked up the slack and offers their EK-Quantum Delta TEC D-RGB solution, which should certainly prove better for taming the Core i9-14900KS than a conventional AIO CPU cooler. Using more aggressive cooling methods should prove effective in allowing users to hit the advertised 6.2 GHz core clock speeds for a sustained period of time. It's not easy to keep a processor cool while pulling 375 W, let alone keep it cooled for a prolonged period, so users must consider that.

Thanks for the articles igor. I haven't been paying attention; there being 14 games supported by APO is news to me. There were only the initial 2 last time I looked? It may not be a lot, but it's quite an improvement. I thought perhaps it was a marketing stunt and would be something that in short order only Pepperidge Farms would remember. Good to see they continue to expend effort on the project.


Neat CPU for the small but hardcore hot rod crowd. Pointless for the rest of us.

It may also work with unsupported games in Advanced mode. The way it seems to be working is that it is hiding the E-cores from the game so game threads don't get scheduled on them.

I appreciate Intel making such products as the KS. Not for me, I don't have anything that could cool it. But I like 'extreme' products they remind me of the early 00s.
