Only about 4TB written to the SSD so far, when I first got it, the performance was:

Now, the write has dropped by about half:

the only difference which I think was different is I was on Windows 11 21H1 when I benchmarked it the first time and now I am on the latest 22H2. The read speeds are the same. What gives?

PS: I even tried using the Samsung NVMe modded drive but that didn't change the write speeds.
Antivirus is disabled while taking the test

Laptop specs are in my signature

Same problem with my Platinum P41 1TB.

What’s interesting is I have a Win11/Ubuntu dual boot setup and this problem only happens in Windows (e.g. write speed around 2200 MB/s) with Linux reporting around 6300 MB/s write speed (using kDisk).

No, unfortunately KDiskMark can only benchmark the Linux partition.

When performing tests with KDiskMark on Ubuntu/Linux results are always very consistent (e.g. 6700 – 6800 MB/s read which is never as high as Windows that can get to 7100 MB/s and 6200 – 6300 MB/s write).

In Windows 11 another I thing I have noticed is if I use HWMonitor and CrystalDiskMark side by side CrystalDiskMark is reporting a Write Speed of 2389.52 MB/s but HWMonitor is reporting 6194.96 MB/s.

Will see if I can forward this to SK Hynix (anyone know the best email address?) as surely this can be fixed with a firmware update.

Filled a ticket with SK Hynix which they replied over the weekends asking for the drive to be send in for RMA. No new firmware atm. Quite a disappointing resolutions since the rma drive will again exhibit similar performance degradation as reported by other users above.

Goddamit. I just got mine today and was really happy with it until i found this thread. Any ideas how to prevent this degradation in future?
I just ordered some Solidigm P44 pro drives, which are the same drive under a hynix subbrand and have the same issue. Not much to do except check periodically for firmware updates and secure erase the drive to restore write performance if it manifests.

If it does cause you major issue, I saw numerous posts on solidigm forums being instructed to RMA very recently, so you could see about RMA. Ideally they will be able to take these recently RMAd drives exhibiting the behavior to find a fix.

Has there been a firmware update since launch? The Solidigm Synergy app doesn't detect any updates for the SK Platinum, though I've seen people report there have been updates for the Solidigm's version.

Well it's disappointing that this persists...can anyone confirm, does the drive have the same issue if just used as a data drive, but not a boot drive? My MSI X570 has 3 m.2 slots, I could do a backup of the system, swap for the Adata XPG as the boot drive, and restore backups.

I would suspect it likely may not matter if it's boot or data. Seems like a pSLC (or DSLC per Hynix marketing) cache clearing bug, where under some condition the cache is never cleared or stops working, causing it to write directly to TLC instead.

I bought a P41 2TB drive back in October. I just happened to run a CrystalDiskMark benchmark just to put a load on the drive to get temps and noticed my write speeds were around 2200MB as reported in this thread. I ran across this thread and a now archived post in the /r/pcmasterrace subreddit. I contacted SKhynix support and they immediately asked for an Amazon order number to process an RMA. I expressed to them that, from the information I've read, the replacement drives also eventually have the problem and asked them if they can confirm it's been fixed. In their next email, they said "For your case, we only can proceed the refund." They said I need to send a picture of the front and back of the drive and pay to ship it to them. I plan to just do that and replace it with an SN850X. So frustrating because now SSD prices are so much higher.

I guess they don't care about this issue coz people who don't run benchmarks won't notice the issue so the SSD can easily spend the rest of its life in some office PC or a clueless home user's PC. Not sure why the Koreans are demonstrating wholesale incompetence (including Samsung). It's like they fired anyone who knew their stuff and resorted to blatant nepotism, with those people knowing only the really basic stuff to run operations.

The right thing to do in this case would be to issue a public apology to their customers, let them know that they can have a refund if they are unsatisfied or give them some monetary compensation for the lower performance since they basically lied about the drive's capabilities.

Come on now, they already have released a firmware that fixes a similar issue for the Solidigm P41 Plus. I'd guess they cant/won't make any promises about a fix for something still being investigated. Samsung did the same thing with the 980 Pro before they had a firmware ready to release.

They're also not the first, or second, or third brand to have an issue like this with pSLC caching failing eventually.

Over a year now. Still being investigated? What a bunch of incompetent morons they must be.

How about them just stop selling the drives, issue a recall and then release them once the problem is fixed? Otherwise just rebrand it as a different model with lower guaranteed specs.

It's not like it's a CPU that users can later overclock or unlock some hidden core to get more than they paid for.

I contacted at the time of creating this thread telling them that my write speeds are half what they have been when I bought the drive and I barely used it and if there was any firmware update. Their response was they wanted me to send them the SSD to check it meaning I would pay an arm and a leg to ship it to them since I live in Dubai. Never buying anything from this company in my life again. WD_BLACK SN850X FTW! Reliable as a rock even after 1 year of heavy usage, gives me very similar speeds to when it was new.

I bought this SSD because it had the fastest speeds in all benchmarks I've seen, but offcourse, online reviews are just part of the story and doesn't reflect real world usage. very disappointing.
