Arrested 10/18/23 looking at 3 years.

Don't want Trump, Powell, Giuliani, to steal all the attention, these equally stupid people deserve their 15 minutes, or at least 5...

If anyone else besides me doesn't care to watch youtube videos, this guy is a police officer and has been indicted for the following:

"Justin Lee, 25, of Rockville, Maryland, an officer with the Montgomery County Police Department, is charged in a seven-count indictment unsealed today in the District of Columbia with felony offenses of civil disorder and assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers.

In addition to the felonies, Lee is charged with several misdemeanor offenses, including entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, and act of physical violence in the capitol grounds or buildings."

Well if these guys are the typical Trump henchmen that they more than likely are, if after they serve their time and Trump is still out and about directing these "patriots" of his to "defend his honor", they'd do that insurrectionist scuffle shuffle all over again because these types never learn the lessons they were being taught while behind bars.

As someone who is Asian, there are a lot of Asian rednecks out there. Redneckistan accepts all races. The dumber, the merrier.

Many Asians, specifically those of east Asian descent, find the message of the GOP very appealing. And that of justice and order, as well as small government. It does hold appeal to many like my parents who were fleeing war and communism. I know it's an illusion and the GQP are hypocrites, but the the allure is there.

Well said, and I hope more and more people finally realize the illusion they have been buying into.

Of course, if Trump spotted him at a rally, he'd probably say something like "look at my Asian over there"

Being a racist, he likes to point them out...

I am still confused how anyone is not white, male, and a fundy christian supports him.

People are complicated and have many different parts to their identity (you list three unrelated ones right there, that don't have to go together).
It does mean alignments can change, as changing circumstances change the weight people put on those different factors.

I still can't get my head around how racially diverse the Tory Party leadership has become, and all while becoming more racist than ever.

Easy.

My parents fled war and communism. They fled an authoritarian government. They wanted the freedom to be able to raise their kids, and to just enjoy life. Things they never would have gotten had they stayed.

There are so many countries in southeast Asia that has experienced similar unrest in recent times. I'm talking about within the past 50 years, or so. Vietnam, China, Thailand, Cambodia, Korea, and many more countries.

When the prospect of peace, personal freedom, and a smaller hands off government is presented, of course it is highly attractive to those who have experienced an authoritarian government, or experienced civil unrest such as wars.

The GOP promises more personal freedoms and small government. I know it is an illusion. Many of those that fled to America as refugees are not the most highly educated. They hear the surface message, and do not have the knowledge or understanding to see beyond that.

There's also a certain "head in the sand" mentality for certain things like abortion and book bannings that the GOP has initiated. This was bred into them because that was the only way they could have survived war, and the government in their country of origin.

I know the message of the GOP party is a lie. Their actions are authoritarian. Their actions give us less personal freedoms. Sadly, the older generation, especially first generation immigrants, are not able to see that.

In all honesty, I did not pay much attention to politics and who is voted into office until I started my own family, and paid more attention to the environment my kids will grow up into. By no means am I some political savant, but at least I can say I am more politically conscious.

6 years for this proud Trump appointee...

Ryan J. Reilly
WASHINGTON — A former Donald Trump political appointee at the State Department who tried to storm the Capitol and assaulted law enforcement officers on Jan. 6, 2021, was sentenced to 70 months in prison on Friday.

Federico Klein was arrested in March 2021 and convicted of eight felonies as well as misdemeanor offenses by U.S. District Judge Trevor McFadden, also a Trump appointee, in July 2023 following a bench trial.

And 3 years in prison for "SuitMacer."

Sounds like a less clear-cut case than many of them, judging from this (wonder what exactly his 'issue' is?)

Judge Dabney L. Friedrich handed down the sentence, less than half of what prosecutors had sought, citing Rodriguez’s mental health needs.

Freidrich said it was "truly one of the hardest January 6th sentencings I've had" and alluded to some of the material that was disclosed only in a sealed proceeding. She said that Rodriguez needed "continued mental health treatment" but that a period of incarceration was necessary for general deterrence.

Rodriguez, the judge said, was "easily manipulated" and believed it was his duty to come to the capital on Jan. 6 and that the dozens of form email messages he received from the Trump campaign and its affiliates about Jan. 6 were personal invitations rather than mass mailings.

Rodriguez, who wore a suit that appeared to be made of satin to court Monday, was in a "state of mania" when he assaulted law enforcement officers that day, said his attorney, Nora Hirozawa, of the federal public defenders' office in New York.

Friedrich sealed the courtroom for part of the proceedings to discuss Rodriguez's mental health and what Hirozawa described as his "diminished capacity." Hirozawa said before the court was sealed that she did not think that the mental health treatment available from the federal Bureau of Prisons was adequate.

The whole issue of mental health and politics is increasingly confusing me. Was just starting to wonder whether our Home Secretary actually has a psychiatric condition. She certainly seems like a sociopath. And Trump's dysfunctions are widely acknowledged. Politics seems to be increasingly filtering for the mentally ill, and either rising them to the top of society or driving them to the very bottom.

- Too add some more color and my own personal experience to the mix: for a lot of people success means making into the normative power structures of their adopted society. You model the behavior of the dominant group so that one day you can fluidly move among them.

For example my parents stopped speaking their native language at home when I was 5 because they were afraid that it would confuse me, I wouldn't learn English properly, and I wouldn't be able to integrate into American society properly. It's sort of nutty to think about, especially with people wanting to be bilingual now, but to my parents it made them "weird" in America, where everyone only spoke English with no accent, and they didn't want that for their kid.

Also maladies of the human condition aren't unique to white people. Trump's message of victimization, that your life sucks because "x" group made it suck resonated with a lot of people regardless of race, color, or creed. It makes the head spin to think about "Latinos for Trump" but to them they were American, they were already here and part of the power structure, they already had their stake. All a new immigrant was was more competition for them, or someone that made them look bad to the rest of society. Pull the ladder up behind you.

If you were to talk to my dad online, you'd think he was some racist old white guy from Alabama, not the son of a steel worker from central India that absolutely busted his ass in school to escape the existential poverty that he grew up in. That poverty mindset of "I gotta get mine, otherwise someone else will" knows absolutely no cultural or racial bounds.

We got a runner!

Way to add felony evading charges (at a minimum) to his list of crimes.
On the run no more...turned himself in.

11+ years...

A former California police chief who brought a hatchet to the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, has been sentenced to more than 11 years in prison for his role in the siege.

Alan Hostetter, who spewed conspiracy theories during his trial and again at his sentencing hearing Thursday, was found guilty of multiple felony charges, including conspiracy, in July.

The Justice Department said Hostetter drove from his home state of California to Washington, D.C., before Jan. 6 instead of flying "so that he could load his car with weapons." Federal prosecutors said he met up with others on the morning of the attack and brought "tactical gear, a helmet, hatchets, knives, stun batons, pepper spray, and other gear for himself and others." He attended the rally at the White House Ellipse before walking to the Capitol, carrying a hatchet in his backpack, according to prosecutors.

Obviously ever so repentant and remorseful.
Also this, welcome to white privilege - how many black felons sentenced to more than a decade in prison get the:

"Rather than taking him into custody immediately, the judge gave Hostetter until Jan. 5 to report to prison."

J6'er on pre-trial release is now punching women in bars. These are such fine upstanding folks...

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Federal prosecutors are seeking to have a Brevard man's pre-trial release order revoked after he was accused of punching a woman in the throat at an Asheville bar, just months after being arrested for his accused actions during the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Alan Michael St. Onge, of Brevard, is charged with felony civil disorder and three misdemeanor charges, including entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, and impeding passage through the Capitol grounds or buildings. According to the U.S. Justice Department, St. Onge was seen on video participating in the breach of the police barricade on the east plaza of the U.S. Capitol before traveling to the Lower West Terrace tunnel. Federal officials said once inside the tunnel, he repeatedly pushed against the police line. He was arrested in North Carolina on June 16, 2023, and made his initial court appearance in the Western District of North Carolina.
