made a red miso, eggplant, tomato and udon dish I mentioned in another thread. first photo. Dinner from this weekend, did just my own tiny riff on a stir-fry. ground pork, grated fresh ginger, soy, onions, garlic, shitake, oyster mushrooms, bean sprouts, eggs, msg, scallions over rice cooked in broth, side of kimchi

Shot of the stir fry pushed to the side to get the eggs going, and the final product.

Bro that looks delicious! A few times a month we get our stir fry on but nothing like that.

Put a 6 pound chicken in the smoker today for 4 hours using cherry wood and a seasoning mix from Food & Wine. This was a test run leading up to Thanksgiving. Spatchcocked the chicken to simulate how the turkey will be prepared
I know chicken and turkey have a different flavor profile but this was a "close as we can get" type of thing.

Turned out really good. The chicken has a nice smoke ring on it. The mashed potatoes were homemade and the oven roasted brussel sprouts are from the garden.

My sister came over today and her and my wife made a mince pie for Thanksgiving. It's a traditional recipe first originating in the UK I think but don't quote me on that.

Here's a pic of the filling which includes figs, dates, raisins, and cherries among other ingredients

Here's my wife putting the lattice work over the top.

A little butter and sugar spread over the top.

My wife has spent the last few days making mincemeat (which is, bizarrely, what the filling in mince pies is called) and Christmas puddings! They are pretty much my favourite Christmas foods!

Bonus Christmas pudding picture from last year (?)

I can see why. I haven't tried the final pie yet because it's for Thursday but when I tried the filling it was unlike anything I've tasted before. Granted we don't do a lot of traditional British cooking but the flavor profile was very tasty!

I decided to make some Chicken Lo Mein last night using some leftover stuff I had.

noodles, chicken, onion, red pepper, cabbage and garlic with soy sauce, oyster sauce, 5 spice powder, sugar and MSG.

Turned out really good and so flavourful. The chicken was very tender after marinading.

last night I made fall-off-the-bones ribs in my crockpot.

Incredibly simple recipe:

- remove membrane from ribs
- add spice rub (whatever combination you like)
- let them rest for at least an hour with the rub
- cut them into manageable sizes to fit the crockpot
- place one layer into the crockpot
- put on some BBQ sauce (I used Sweet Baby Ray's Brown Sugar & Hickory) on the ribs
- followed by some sliced onion
- repeat until all ribs are in crockpot
- optional: add some liquid smoke for more flavour. I added about 1/2 teaspoon.
- set it to low for 7 - 8 hours. Use high if you want them done faster.

It was really good! Once it was baked and the filling mixed together under the heat the end result was amazing. It was a hit at Thanksgiving too. So many people commented on how good it was and how they have never tasted anything like it before.

The positive feedback got us more interested in British cooking. If you got any recipes let me know. I'd love to try them.

Mostly desserts? I can find you a sticky toffee pudding and a treacle sponge!

Sorry for the late reply I forgot about this thread until tonight. I'll take any recipe you want to share. Desserts or otherwise we are all about trying new foods at least once.

Had some veal cutlets sitting in the freezer that needed used up so we decided to make some wiener schnitzel with a mushroom gravy tonight. Holy shit was this amazing! Yeah it ain't much to look at but omg did it taste so good.
