They should first perfect DDR5 before moving onto DDR6. I feel like it's a scam by memory makers where they keep dangling faster and faster speeds in front of us while the JEDEC speeds barely move. We are gonna get what with ARL/Zen 5? JEDEC 6400? Pathetic.
Exactly, they could stay on AM5 until they support 8000+ speeds as standard.

PCIe6 could be supported on a from 8 Gen chipsets.

And if DDR6 is to hit the market in 2026, will AMD release a new DDR5 platform before that? Or will they wait for DDR6 for a new platform.

My system kept getting unstable lately again, rebooted itself several times this past week. Mostly playing Modern Warfare 3 (surprisingly in menus, rather than during gameplay), but it happened to me once during web-browsing and while doing something in 3Dsmax. But then i played Sins of a Solar Empire 2 for almost 6 hours, had massive battles of 2 full-cap fleets and nothing, all good. And that i would suppose is more CPU heavy scenario than MW3 menu. It bogs my mind whats going on. It had no single crash for the first like 4-5 months.
Anyway, dropped my OC for the moment, just let the DOCP on, to see, if it could have been OC related. It was only very very mild OC, well, its not like you could OC further, but perhaps some of those cores could not manage even 100 MHz more that i set them up to run at. Or it was that Dynamic OC Switcher acting up. Wish me luck for that to be that case. I can live without those additional 100-200 MHz, but i dont want to worry its some HW issue that would force me to deal with RMA something.

Finally, happy Christmas everyone!

There is a new MSI bios out with a newer Agesa, but people are having widespread problems with it. I'm having a good time with the last beta bios and will stick to that. It feels like the bios updates break things half the time rather than fixing them.

Yeah but it wouldn't be anything special. AM5 existing from late 2022 to late 2025 would possibly miss Zen 6. Even LGA1700 is going to last 3 years. It needs to support Zen 6 for it to be a true long-term support socket like AM4 was.
Nah, it will be "something special" to us tweakers who can't stop fiddling with our machines...
New toy, more fun!

I'm still a few BIOS versions behind. I hate updating when things are working well.
I have an MSI AM5 board here but still in its box, however with my Asrock X670E board, their latest bios also has agesa 1.1.0.0 & so far with my experimenting its performing well with no bugs (at least compared to previous agesas) My RAM OC are still working fine, just as before...
So in essence, it will depend on how MSI have implemented the latest official agesa.

On mine, 56 - > 66+ns. Same mem speed timings. It works until quick verification. 1.1.0.0 vs 1.0.0.7c.
Asrock X670E rs pro 2.02 vs 1.3 bios

OK, new problem. I never even looked as I don't use sound on most of my machines, but I gave my son one of my Zen 4 boxes to replace his 1700x (yes, that old)

So everything went fine, and he has it (an hour and a half away), but the earphone volume is very weak, even at 100% vol. Anybody ever had this issue ? Motherboard is

MSI PRO B650M-P ProSeries Motherboard (AMD AM5, mATX, DDR5, PCIe 4.0, M.2, SATA 6Gb/s, USB 3.2 Gen 2, HDMI/DP, AMD Ryzen 7000 Series Desktop Processors)

Is the audio driver installed? Check device manager and see what it shows.

Well, I thought I did. It was a win 10 upgrade from a Zen 1 to a Zen 4 motherboard. If no drivers would he not hear anything ???
It could be using some standard Windows driver which could work but not necessarily work well.

Is this the port on the motherboard or the case port on the front?

tried both. Like I said I thought I installed drivers, manually. The odd part is that it works, but very soft in volume. I wish he was closer, but the PC is at work. He did says its a LOT faster than a 1700x with 8 gig ram (7950x with 32 gig now)

If he has high impedence headphones then the gain has to match this. It's is usually found somewhere in the drivers.
With my SB drivers there are three levels depending on the headphones.

Try what @VirtualLarry suggested. Also manually check/confirm the driver versions on MSI's support page for your MB's onboard sound.

If this fails I would just cut your losses and (assuming there is an open slot available) drop a few $ on a soundcard w/high impedance headphone amp. A Creative Audigy 5 RX should do fine @ +/- $50 new... less on FS/FT.

Which headphones does he have?

If he has installed the realtek audio console, there should be a slider to set the impedence.

Thanks for this, but when he installed the app, there is no ohms setting slider. And nothing in the app fixes the issue.

Any more ideas ? Any recommended earbuds that might work better ?

I think easiest solution is to get headpohones with USB connection. Avoid all the hassles of analog connections 😁
(if current headphones are not very highend/expensive models)
