I still get a lockup on warm boots 50% of the time, even after many bios revisions (I'm on the 1.0.0.7c bios). Not sure if the board is the issue. I kept the memory retraining on and am running it at stock speeds with expo. It gets stuck with the cpu and mem lights and usually the next cold boot fixes it, but sometimes it takes multiple cold boots to work. This is mainly a problem during windows updates and I rarely reboot the pc otherwise, but it's still annoying.

As good an excuse as any to try out a new 48GB kit.

Have an XMP 5600 kit (Samsung B die) OC to 6200 CL32 - agesa 1.0.0.7b bios, MTP stable & consistently reboots with no delays whatsoever every day now. The last official not beta bios for my Asrock Board.

BTW, did anyone notice that MicroCenter no longer has any incentives / bundles for Zen 4?

I was able to get a bundle for one of the PCs I set up, that had 7700x + free 32 GB of DDR5-6000. That bundle is not there any more.

The price of $318 for 7700x is quite close to $349 for 7800x3d (which has been lowered). It seems that AMD is trying to upsell people toward 7800x3d.

BTW, looking at the DIY sales of Zen 4, it seems that 7800x3d outsells all other Zen 4 CPUs combined (at Mind Factory).

BTW, as part of the Zen 4 build, I have this "Fear of Missing Out", regarding Windows 10 vs. 11.

Can someone help me narrow down what I would be missing out? In this thread:

Nothing you will miss. I run Windows 10.

7800X3D is single CCD so you don't have to worry about scheduler shenanigans either.

That's what I am leaning to:

Just stick to Windows 10 for now. When Windows 12 shows up, set that up on a different M.2 drive, and keep the Windows 10 as a dual boot or virtual machine. In 2024, or whenever Windows 12 comes out.

Seems like Windows 11 may turn out to be a "safe to skip" version of Windows...

Or it might finally be left alone and stop being fudged with once WIN12 is out. Then Microsoft will "feature freeze" Windows 11 and turn its attention to messing with the sanity of Windows 12 users with their "feature updates". At that point, Win11 might be safe to upgrade to.

Personally I don't have any problems running win11 except the need of a start menu mod like start11 or startallback. I also have a Microsoft365 family subscription.

This is kind of a general question, rather than Zen 4:

The AIO I got (Corsair with iCue) came with a controller for 6 fans, including RGB colors and fan speed.

Since it was convenient, I plugged all the fans into it. But now, the Mobo is not reporting or controlling the fan speeds.

Which option is better, to connect fans headers straight to the motherboard or use the iCue controller and software?

I am leaning to re-wiring things and connecting to mobo... And let the iCue just control the RGB of all fans and AIO.

I use "fan control" software to control my fans, which are all connected to the motherboard. I don't think there is a "better way" than the configuration you prefer.
Fan control does everything I need, but I don't have any RGB I want to control.

There is no "better way", just different ways. You will still have to use iCUE no matter what to handle the RGB. If you want to see fan speed in something other than iCUE or you want to control the fans in a way that iCUE doesn't do, then you will need to use the fan header on the mobo and either 3rd party software or the BIOS.

In my build I used the Lian Li controller and Lian Li software to handle the fans. I get enough flexibility in the software to control each set of 3 fans independently and haven't found the need to use another method.

Micro Center has run the 7700X bundle since mid summer. I'm most likely going to get one, but still a little undecided.

If I understood correctly, they took $30 off this bundle only at the Indianapolis store grand opening. Hopefully we'll see something like that for Black Friday to push me over the line. I doubt they'll allow me to customize the bundle, but I'll ask if I can pay the extra $31 for the 7800X3D.

Honestly the main deterrent is that GPU prices are fairly stable; I'd like something in between a 6750 XT and 7800 XT. Navi 22 stocks appear to be slowly drawing down as the deals are no better than 5 months ago.

They also have an i7-13700K bundle for $450 but reports are the motherboard is crappy, so I think I'd rather go with AMD. Electricity in California is pricey enough where the efficiency matters:

A minimum 25c/kWh but it can spike sharply in the evening.

That's a very good bundle, but you have to go with their choice of mobo. The $399 bundle is a steal...

I went with 7800x3d for my 2nd Zen 4, for my home, and that one is even more efficient than the rest of the Zen 4 line-up.

With 7800x3d, another place one can save is the cooler, because it probably doesn't need an elaborate AIO, just a basic CPU cooler is likely sufficient...

I forgot about the free RAM bundle you got. I thought that with Micro Center bundles, you cannot return one component (but some people claim otherwise).

Hopefully MC will also have a 7800X3D bundle for Black Friday (they have one listed now but I think it's just normal pricing, no discount). If there's nothing interesting for BF, I can wait until Zen 5.

It took me a while to get my act together to get this computer upgrade. I waited for 7800x3d and then for 7800 XT GPU, so I am set for some time. It has been 10 years to finally upgrade my old PC (see my sig).

I could be tempted to get Zen 5 V-Cache when it comes out, if the performance jump is really compelling.
