Question are video card prices headed down yet?

Used cards between $200 and $100 are still all over the damn place.

The complete stagnation of performance with the current gen means 6600XTs/6600/5700xt/3060/3050/2070(S)/2060(S)/A750/1080Ti are all smashed together between $100-$200 with no rhyme or reason for their sale prices.

The 980ti performance tier is all stuck around $75-$100, which is too damn much for a 9 year old card.

The reason these are all roughly equivalent in pricing is due to the fact that they really are in the same general performance tier, despite regardless of generation. So really, the prices do make sense in that respect, the problem is that newer cards that come out aren't getting any cheaper, especially at the lower tiers, which tend to be similar performance, but even more money.

It seems to me that for the time being, GPU prices may actually be increasing, as previous gen supply is starting to dwindle.

I kinda wish S3/PowerVR were still active in the market. They could've put pressure on the bigger players and maybe even driven the competition for iGPUs to gain more performance with each successive generation.

Exactly, the $300 price point sucks right now. Navi 22 was the best choice a few months ago, but you rarely see those deals anymore. At this point, might as well wait for Intel Battlemage and hope for the best. As consumers, we desperately need Intel to stay in the dGPU game for as long as possible.

Even better is a bunch of game studios or game developers banding together to start a "do more with less" campaign where they design and publish fascinating games with excellent visuals without requiring anything more than a 6700 XT for Ultra settings. They would ensure they reach more gamers that way. Even the raytracing problem can be solved by using it judiciously only where needed, AKA hybrid raytracing.

The current moronic mindset needs to end where game studios think that if their game doesn't bring a gaming PC to its knees, it's not good enough or it will get shunned by PC gamers. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I don't play games to test how much it stresses my PC. I play it for the gameplay or the story experience.

It seems utterly unbelievable that Battlemage would overtake Nvidia so completely, by being much more efficient than the 4070 Ti and way cheaper. This sounds like the typical rumor mill nonsense where they just promise the moon.

Why would anyone pay $449 for it if it performs slower than 4070 Ti? Why not just go for a used 3070 Ti or even 3080? Intel has to prove itself and it has to outperform the competition to look like an attractive buy for the dollar. It's the price they need to pay to build a loyal customer base.

If it has 16 GB and performs like a 4070 and costs $150 less than a 4070 Super, it might be attractive enough...unless Nvidia brings the heat with the 5000-series.

Intel has to prove itself and it has to outperform the competition to look like an attractive buy for the dollar. It's the price they need to pay to build a loyal customer base.

They also have to earn money as a company and can't just sell at a large loss.

Not sure how widespread it is, but if instead of those ex-mining 3080 20GB AI cards being retail 3080's with 2GB chips being swapped they're moving the GPU die to a new PCB with 20GB and a blower cooler then there might be a surplus of retail gaming 3080s with no GPU dies kicking around.

You missed black friday there, but yes, generally prices are the same except 4070 getting a 50 dollar price cut, 4070 Ti getting "200 dollar price cut" (4070S), and 4080 Getting "200 dollar price cut" (4080S). edit: 7900 XTX/XT also got ~50-100 dollar cut

Newegg just had 2 versions of Power Color's 7700 XT (Fighter and Hellhound) for ~$350, but looks like they're sold out. Seems like it would have been a pretty fabulous deal for anyone looking at that price point.

The 7700XT is far from perfect but it does have solid performance.



If it could find its way to $350 with solid availability that would be a boon for all budget+ gamers. I find that my 6800 is quite a comfortable 1440P card, in many games I use Chill to cap FPS at 100 fps, that helps efficiency a lot and I assume the 7700XT would be in the same boat.

The 40 series Super is putting some downward pressure on prices. New street prices are:
7800 XT - $480
7900 XT - $700

This isn't a lot lower, but it's something. The sub-$400 marker is important though; when I bought my GPU in November that was the price point I was willing to go for.
