Just fyi, holding down alt does not show you all items for pick up.....minor annoyance, when talking to characters and you are presented with persuasion/arcana/etc checks, it checks with the person highlighted and not person with best skill at it in group, minor annoyance

I am waiting for others to beta the out of beta game.
I am cool with downloading it a few times, but if i have to redownload the game every week, and restart my save every week on a game they say is over 100 hours, then i'll wait for all the critical patches to be done with.

Remember that the PC version was supposed to be released in September but they pulled it in because they were scurred of Starfield. Could just wait until then.

Now that the game is fully released is this game like Dragon Age: Origins? I think I read a comment or two earlier in thread stating that it was similar? FWIW, I was not a big fan of Divinity: Original Sin, but I never played the sequel.

It's turn based combat and it's mostly similar to divinity original sin 2. I've played that game and it was decent but only put about 30hrs into it yet I never felt like I got anywhere.

There is a main story and all but it's very much left open to do as you please. I did buy BG 3 but didn't have a chance this weekend to start it.

In divinity I felt like you had to micromanage a lot of the items and characters which sounds like baldurs gate will be similar. The difference I think comes with a more interactive and cinematic adventure. Also a ton more variety with classes, sub classes and race which have an impact on how responses and dialogue options play out.

One of the things I'm disliking is Larian making 20s and 1s automatic successes and failures on non-combat skill checks. This isn't a real D&D rule and it's very frustrating to roll a 1 on a DC 5 or 10 check when you have +3 from a stat, +2 from proficiency, +2 from expertise, and Guidance.

I seem to be having much better graphical performance after switching to Vulkan which makes sense as it's newer than DX11 and Larian's suggested method. Also I found that when you quick save it allows you to continue playing while the save is happening but performance is affected, which explains the t-pose sliding I was seeing at times.

I just started playing. This means I just got out of the character build screen.

Coming from Blizz games, this game's CGI and animations are bit janky. The characters all look a bit goofy and off.

That being said, I can't wait to fire the game up tonight.

I've been on the fence about BG3 but I've played Divinity OS 1 and 2 for at least 200 hours each. If this game has any similarities then I'll definitely pick it up.

I'm also interested in the multi-player aspect if that's a thing but I'm not sure I'll be picking this up just yet. I do enjoy playing a game well after it's received plenty of patches to fix all the glaring issues that inevitably crop up after a release.

-I've noticed with DOS 1/2 that Larian tends to be pretty stingy with their sales. I don't think DOS has ever dropped below $10 on steam to date and that game is nearly 9 years old.

I'm still on the character creation screen. Want to play warlock but can't decide between a high elf or wood elf sub class. The high elf one gets you an extra cantrip.

I had to research so much stuff just to get an understanding of what type of character I would end up with after all the selections.

Has anyone gotten HDR to work under Vulkan? It only works with DX11 for me.
Not intending to side track. This is my major complaint about vulkan, it should work better but in my experience it never does or if it does it comes with some weird limitation like above.

I started to playing.

This is my first CRPG/DnD game ever. Few questions.

1. Can I use a consumable potion and heal someone else? I can seem to only self-drink.
2. Let's say I have 3 skills that each require a short rest. Does this mean I can cast all 3 before having to refresh via resting or I can use/cast only one of the skill before the rest refresh?
3. My fighter is two-handing a long sword and one of the attack says 1d10(1d8)+3 slashing. What does this mean? Is this single attack rolling the two dices at once? (d10 and d8)?

I believe they've mentioned the sales in one of their past Steam memos or news articles or whatever the hell they are that pops up on the top of the Library page, that they believe the price of their product should be reflected in the quality of the product. I'm paraphrasing, but they definitely have the quality down and those two games are well worth the full asking price just because of how good they are.

1. Yes, you can throw it at their feet. That will heal them.
2. You can use as many skills as you want that refresh on a short rest, then refresh them all. But you may be limited in other ways.
3. A longsword is a weapon that can be either one handed or two handed. The attack is saying it is using two hands (1d10 damage +3 from strength modifier, so 4-13 damage). The 1d8 is telling you how much damage it would do if you were one handing the weapon, 1d8+3.

Not all weapons can be two handed. Also, pay attention to whether the weapon uses strength, finesse, or is versatile. A strength weapon will add your strength modifier to the damage. A finesse weapon will add your dexterity modifier to the damage. A versatile weapon will add whichever modifier will result in more damage.

Also, characters can dual wield two finesse weapons and then either attack with one or both (If you attack with both you will use both an action and a bonus action. If you just attack with one weapon you will only use one action. You can use a bonus action to only attack with the offhand weapon. The offhand weapon does not get your dexterity modifier). If you take the dual wield feat then you can dual wield strength weapons instead of finesse weapons.

Finesse weapons use the greater of Dex or Strength.

Versatile are the weapons that can be one or two handed.

Yeah, I'm a buff female drow warlock with black eyes and blue and white hair.

I don't know why, with all the options available, you'd design a character that looks like an Uber Eats driver.

Just a depressing fact with a lot of these games that have really well developed character creators. 10% of people will go all in on the thing and spend hours crafting insane unique characters and the other 90% will go with the default WASP character and goooooo.

Dragon Age Inquisition and Origins had the same issue, where you could pick from all these races etc and the overwhelming majority of players went with human male.

Personally I like the avatar to look at least remotely like me.
Extremely unlikely I’d do some impossible color skin tone for a human and add a tail or horns.

I don't get putting down people that just want to have an avatar looks something like them, and doesn't want to spend hours in character creators. I'm in this camp. I look through a couple of presets, finds something close and spend maybe 5 minutes tweaking the hair. Done.

In DA:O I played every origin to the common point. That was one of the best things about it. Seeing the world from multiple perspectives was an amazing way to get introduced to it.

After playing every origin, my two favorites were the #1 Dwarven Noble, #2 Human. I played each of these several times. But I likewise didn't spend ages in character creator.

I don't have BG3 yet, but I probably won't ever play Githyanki, Tieflings, or Dragonborn. Just too alien for me.

Though I probably won't play human either, as they are mechanically the weakest race. I figure I will mainly go elf in BG3, though by the time I get the game, a lot could be changed.

-I'm not putting people down for making a character that looks like them, but if you can give that character a horn and tail why not? It's a fantasy setting, lean into it.

At the end of the day people are going to do whatever, but it does mean less games with huge amounts of character customization for those who do like it.

With regard to DA:Origins I did the same. I agree that the Human Noble origin was actually a really great origin and added layers to the main campaign. Honestly City Elf, and both Dwarf origins (especially the low born one) were fantastic as well. The clan elf and mage intros were the weakest of the bunch, but even they were at least good.

The way I see character creators is that if it's a first-person game (Fallout, TES, M&B, etc.) game where I'll never (or rarely) see my character, I don't give a flying **** what my character looks like. I'll choose a gender based on how I want that playthrough to go but the rest of how my character looks doesn't even cross my mind as I simply don't care if I'll only see them for a fraction of the game. If I'll be seeing their faces a lot, I might hit the randomize button a few times, but again, I don't honestly care what my character looks like so long as it resembles a humanoid creature. I have a friend on Steam who spent over four hours designing their character in Skyrim and downloaded mods just to give them additional detail modifications and then they played the entire game in first person...

Now, if there's unique options like horns, tails, etc. and especially if your cosmetic choices affect dialogue choices down the line, then I might go full Saint's Row and create something outlandish, but for 99% of the games that offer character customization, I don't really care.
