Playing FF16 now. Even for Final Fantasy... there's a lot of plot early on. Game almost needs an ability to save during cutscenes if there's going to be this much.

Yeah, I was going to quit for the evening a couple plays ago and I thought I would just watch the cutscene for the next main mission.

I think it was like 12 minutes long!

I have to say I am really enjoying it... it's not perfect but the effort level in production seems incredible. I wasn't a FF guy at all until the FF7 re-do and wow, I am here for this type of AAA experience. On rails you say? Fine. It tells a story, rewards me for trying hard, and finally addresses the whole man challenging a god in combat in direct way (I did like FF7 reboot final level too) that might also be scripted but is also thrilling.

I am looking forward to getting back to the tactical combat of Rebirth but this works for me too. Definite Nier:A vibes and I'll take that any day.

I might only play 2-3 games per year on my PS5, but I'll be a day one PS5 Pro guy. I've only got so much time to game, and I'd like it to be turned as close to 11 as possible yet still be fluid.

I'm more surprised that they are selling a digital only version with a $50 price increase.

Don't forget the stealth $30 price increase since now you need to buy the vertical stand separately. PS5 is way too big for me to ever want to put horizontally.

I have to admit, I am kind of losing interest in FF16's story. Still like the combat though.

Oh and there's a boss fight where Square pretty blatantly rips off of God of War.

FFXVI combat is feeling meh to me. The foundations are there but it’s just too easy. Parry and precision dodge are trivial almost because of obvious telegraphs and easy enemies are artificially spongy. Then mash buttons and spam abilities in between. I still like the game and it’s getting more interesting now that I’m getting closer to the end. Trying to finish it quickly so I can start Alan Wake 2 on release day .. that looks like a perfect Halloween weekend game.

Nothing wrong with that, especially if it's something new for players who have never played GoW or never intend to.

The subreddit indicates the Final Fantasy difficulty is the "correct" difficulty for actual ARPG players. Its unlocked after the first completion.

The Action Oriented difficulty is clearly (to me) still a difficult setting for the "typical" FF player used to spending more time making strategic decisions and hoping for good dice rolls than those that engage in frantic combat. I probably won't play it more than once, but I have really been enjoying all of it, including the boss levels.

What does cheese me a bit is "normal" type enemies that have a stagger bar. Just triggering that stager enough times and whaling away on a downed enemy seems silly when its the same as how the early stages of a boss fight goes.

At least the dodge in FFXVI does something. It took me forever in FF7R to realize it wasn't a true ARPG and I was just supposed to damage sponge block incoming attacks instead of just dodging into their attack.

I started final fantasy, the latest one and never got that far. It's good if you feel like watching a movie or want something immersive to pay attention to. Maybe I'll pick it back up later. I and to uninstall it because of spiderman 2 but I haven't even touched that yet either due to time constraints.

So with the "release" - into laptops, that is - of the Zen4c core, do we think we'll see these in the PS5 Pro?

They've been around for a decent bit as part of AMDs server offerings, and their low power, dense use of silicon and clock ceiling of ~3.5ghz (which should be enough with 2 generations of IPC increases) they seem like a great fit for a console released next year vs shrinking the Zen 2 chips.

I don’t necessarily disagree, just wonder why you would think so. These seem ideal for console use in that more TDP can be routed to the GPU and might cheaper per core as well.

hmm, looks like AMD had a pretty good idea of what they had cooking two years ago:

With server silicon shipping last month and consumer stuff hitting now-ish, it seems like AMD must have had it pretty qualified and it wouldn't be hard for PS5 Pro Dev Kits to start with vanilla Zen 4 and scale back or to have had Zen 4C for months, given that Phoenix has been shipping for some time now.

I guess I'd rate it as 50/50. I would think any change in core counts will be left to next gen. Zen 4C and 16MB of L3 cache (from what I am reading the custom Zen 2 CPU has a unified 8MB L2 cache) would likely be a solid uplift and likely would still allow the GPU portion of the chip more of the overall power budget. And clearly AMD is currently making Zen 4C APUs with 5nm TSMC.

Doesn't make much sense to make major core changes when they would need to code for the base PS5. Sony seems to be undergoing some major changes: layoffs, firing rumors and CEO changes. Things are very odd there right now.

That's because the GAAS games are not going well. With SM2 released, the cupboard is a bit bare. The GAAS games were supposed to fill the void.

This has to be the crappiest Black Friday I have seen for gaming in years. The only thing I bought in the PSN Black Friday sale is the Kaito Files DLC for Lost Judgment. Gamestop's BF ad released and its trash. Target's doesn't look to have anything too interesting. Walmart's looks pretty meh.

Agreed. I'm not looking for anything in particular this year, but looking around, I'm not seeing much.

Honestly, it'll probably continue to get worse as more people move to digital and away from physical.

Was hoping to at least see a few bucks off on Spiderman 2. But then again maybe for the better I don't buy it now since I haven't played Miles Morales any yet. Can't believe Lost Judgment is $45 right now in Gamestop's Black Friday ad. I bought it for $30 from them last Black Friday. Gamestop will be dead pretty soon once Microsoft goes all digital next year with the discless Series X.

I see that last of us part 2 will get a native PS5 version. Should be a $10 upgrade. I see last of us part 1 for PS5 is $39 for black Friday..but yea nothing exciting or new. I already have spiderman 2. I may replay last of us part 1 remake if I end up buying it.

There's rumors on the internets that Target is going to rid themselves of the remaining Phat Disc models by selling it for $349 tomorrow. It's a doorbuster.

I imagine most stores don't have many left so don't bother going but we might get some good fight videos out of it.

I finally picked up a crucial 2tb drive to add to my PS5 along with gran turismo 7 and last of us part 1 PS5 version. I opened the console up to install the drive and decided to clean the console as well. Surprising I had it since launch and it had like 0 dust particles on or near the fan.

I always keep it in an open TV stand shelf. Although I bet it will acquire some dust when my fiance decides that tv stand has to go and will probably go with something more fashionable and closed up.

This remaster of Part 2, and it will be released on PC at some point
Plus Factions, which is likely never going to be released.

They are apparently doing a game based upon New IP and probably also started TLOU3 at some point recently. Those two games might be it for the entire generation given how long games take to develop.

I'm actually glad. Better they take their time and enjoy the development progress. Game development should be fun and it was fun during the early years of PC gaming. Then EA and Activision made it a business and games became too formulaic with little replay value.

This remaster of Part 2, and it will be released on PC at some point

They are 1000% working on TLOU3. They would be stupid not to be lol.

Was not expecting Rise of the Ronin to be an early 2024 release. Between Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Persona 3 Reload, and Rise of the Ronin the first three months of 2024 are going to be nuts.
