All these rumors swirling around today about a bunch of Xbox exclusives being considered to be ported to PS5.

Starfield, Indiana Jones, Gears of War, and now Halo.
I think it’s worth wondering how long MS keeps the Xbox line going. I am not saying that as some fanboy, either. MS makes money on software and somewhere they’ve got number crunchers trying to predict if they would net more or less just publishing to PC and PS.

I am sure they evaluate all the business lines regularly. Xbox is huge brand presence for them but it has to create shareholder value.

Gears of War, and now Halo.
Those two remastered I can believe. That would just be extra profit for them with almost minimal effort. They could test the waters with those two titles and if they are even mildly successful, it could inform decisions on whether to pursue ports of other exclusives.

Yeah I think Xbox Series S/X hasn't met their sales expectations. No one bitched about stock availability for them during the pandemic. I think that must've hurt Microsoft's feelings. Or rather, their shareholders'.

Being a software and now a services company first and foremost, I wouldn't blame them for looking to get out of manufacturing hardware.

Yah I am pretty confident that the Series X/S will be their last try at console hardware and they will strictly be software after this gen.

I can see them making some kind of streaming "box" or controller though that just connects to your TV via BT, and it lets you access their Xbox Cloud Gaming thing. And then they will still have Gamepass for PC if people wanted keep being "hardcore" gamers.

I remember playing an Indiana Jones game on N64 and had a lot of fun with it. Would be interested to see how this new one turns out. Although I fear it may be too similar to tomb raider which is not bad because I enjoy that too, just not crazy about the fantasy elements.

Here's the link to the FF7 Rebirth demo. The description says it contains the Nibelhelm section and an update later will also contain a part of the Open World. If you complete the Nibelhem section you would be allowed to skip that part in the main game provided you download the update. Also confirms that Rebirth covers the Original Story up to the end of
"Disc 1"
with elements added in.

The demo is huge btw.

From reading r/PS5 it sounds like this doesn't even look as good graphically as the PS4 game in BC mode. Ugh I hope this is good at launch since I want to play this as soon as I'm done with Persona 3 Reload (amazing game BTW).

That's a stretch but I can see what people are saying about Performance Mode looking blurry.

Does it at least run at 60 fps or is it like FFXVI that looked like crap and ran 45 fps? Don't know why they couldn't have just gone for graphics on par with the PS5 patch of FFVII Remake.

I had a chance to play more of the demo. Fidelity-wise it's only marginally better than the changes they made with Intergrade... so I have to think the Performance Mode blurriness is just a bug. Visuals are still not bad by current standards but it's showing it's age.

OK so now I have completed the demo. Play time about an hour 45 or so. It's not the entire chapter but most of it. The fire effects at the end are pretty funny.

Finally finished FF16, game is really beautiful, did all the marks and I think all side quests. My criticisms are combat got fairly stale after awhile, no matter the boss or enemy it was pretty easy to use abilities and practically never even take damage. Never really felt I understood wtf the main bad guy was doing other than prep'ing his "vessel" and until almost the very end WTF he was actually doing and why
and I didn't realize there was more than one

I dunno if it's the games themselves or I am just older now, but they and this game never felt that large to me. Overall I thought this game is fairly forgettable unfortunately.

With that one checked off I started Vahalla on GoW, interesting take, but unsure just how long I'll be able to stick with this format and since I'm a glutton for punishment I selected just one step down from top difficulty, may reduce that just so I can see the content sooner rather than later.

Can we talk about the 6 hours of sidequests between the next to final fight and the final fight that are purely optional and they didn’t even bother to time gate it? Could have made the final level inaccessible until some conditions were met or something? IDK.

I had to immediately go to reddit to parse the ending… not sure that’s great either…

Playing Crisis Core now (great Portal game btw) and as cheesy as it is it feels more cohesive somehow.

Like ok all the dominants when they prime take a toll on their life, but they all still get by... somehow... I also could not really understand Odin's deal other than religious fanatic, I mean I get he was being controlled or pushed, just seemed like ok you are doing this while your own country/land is going to shit, cool? Or why were there two fire dominants and nothing else?

Ok just read a summary and see why there isn't two of another dominant and kinda just fore fire. Ugh.

Yup.

It held together for the first third to half and then just sorta got done. Pacing got destroyed by the side mission structure, to the point where we were more empathetic and knew more about them than most of the main cast (did anyone talk more than Martha? Or the judge guy?).

It was cool to have these real side stories but it was like two separate games stitched together.

Getting to be the FF summons was damn epic when they pulled it off.

Haha, I’d always forget the big boy controls and spend the the first couple minutes figuring out what was what again. Square still punches! Excellent, start with that 😂

Needed more Kaiju, more meaningful story, less meat shields that are normal enemies but can take 10x the damage the main hero can.

Square says they are going to include a fix for Performance Mode in the Rebirth Demo update on the 21st. I'm guessing it's not going to do much about the low texture resolution tho.

Oh, forgot to mention. Sony admitted that they have nothing coming this fiscal year. I don't think it's an afraid of GTA 6 thing either... instead I think it's because the pipeline has been blown to hell with the focus on GAAS games and the subsequent cancellation of them. It's a bad look.

Suicide Squad: Kill the $70 GAAS Sales Model

Nothing wrong with GAAS free to play games, there is an inherent agreement between the dev/pub/player that you pay nothing up front but the game will receive tons of monetized content down the line.

But asking players to pay full AAA price for 1/4 of a game upfront with pinky swears that more game is coming is some Kentucky fried bullshit and it warms my shriveled old heart that it was rejected so soundly on WB's latest release.

If it gets the whole industry to pause and reposition even for 10 years before the next gen of industry exec comes back with the same bad idea it would be a win.

Shame Rocksteady has to die for our sins though.

They also said they wanted to increase revenue with multi-platform releases. I expect PC releases to start coming much closer to console launches.

Guess I'll give this a try tomorrow to see if it's worth buying. Digital Foundry claimed they pixel counted 1440p in performance mode and the blur came from something post process which will hopefully be gone tomorrow. Yeah a bunch of low res textures mixed in with other geometry getting high res textures would feel right at home with Intergrade, where for example billboards and ads on the vending machines were super low res and you could see the pixelization.
