One more day to go, but I'll finish this month with the lowest electric usage in the 6 years I've been keeping track.

Got this weird landline phone system with two cordless handsets ( because my old one died).

It links to my cell via BT and alerts when I get messages. I can answer and make calls using the cell number with it too.

^ I got one of those a while back, though I still have a landline too, and the new Vtech set has a call blocker feature that blocks almost all robocalls on the landline, which were really getting excessive.

I'd first looked into a standalone box with the blocker feature, then realized I could get an entire 4 handset, set with the feature integrated for about half the price of the standalone box, as an amazon warehouse deal. Plus, the phone set can bluetooth download my cell's contacts list so the setup for blocking (allowing known contacts) was minimal, did not have to program all those names and numbers in.

It seems like a lot of customers find these additional features, too confusing to set up, so they get frustrated and return the sets in brand new condition except not packed up as well as they left the factory. Part of the problem may be that the set only includes a paper, quick start guide while the full PDF manual offered, goes into much more detail.

AT&T (also made by Vtech) and Panasonic also have models with this call blocker and bluetooth linking features.

No surprise that many people ordering landline phones find the additional features to be challenging to set up...

Why do they do this kind of thing? What is different to them between 8 months, 9, 10 and 11 that they would alter the rate that much?

This is CitiBank.

The standard monthly premium for Medicare Part B enrollees will be $174.70 for 2024, an increase of $9.80 from $164.90 in 2023.

I hate contractors.

Informed Delivery shows I have a letter coming today from CGS Administrators that is apparently some kind of claims processing contractor under Centers For Medicare Services. Why are they farming out personal information? That should ONLY be handled by Government employees.

Same with the National Verifier (Universal Service Administrative Company) that handles the Affordable Connectivity Program for the FCC. If they don't have a .gov domain, they shouldn't be able to see personal information.

Ads say something like 'spend at least 50% less on ....' various holiday junk.

I'll be spending 100% less this year.

Just noticed a one letter typo in a Quicken transactions list that has been repeated for months. It's only in a memo notation, so no consequences.

Threshold (the band)

Critical Mass and Dividing Lines are good, but not as good as March Of Progress and For The Journey.

Is it the singer?

Logistic decisions are stupid. I once had a delivery guy get within 10 minutes of me, he calls me and says that he's getting late so he will deliver tomorrow. Me being the nice guy, tell him that's fine. The bastard updates the status in their internal logistics app saying that the customer postponed delivery for the next day. The online store decided that I was a bad customer for wasting their time like that so they delayed the delivery by a whole week!

Can't think of any thread to post this random thought on.

Reading a listicle about James Bond movies, it occured to me that SPECTRE (Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge, and Extortion) combines a very peculiar set of roles for one agency to have.

How does "counter intelligence" (a kind of policing/detective role, uncovering enemy spies, usually on your own territory) go together with "terrorism" (something you probably don't want to engage in on your own turf)? Shouldn't it be "counter-terrorism"? Never mind the vagueness of "revenge" as an official role for an organisation.

It's almost as if they wanted a cool acronym and picked functions to make the name work.

(Should have gone with Special Executive for Counter-Terrorism, Retrieval and Extraction...but then I suppose they'd be the good guys and Bond wouldn't be fighting them)
