For all my "old man shouts at clouds" posts about M+KB not working for this I totally get why they have done it. It just wouldnt work on a M+KB.
they could have made the menus work with a mouse though!

I find mouse/kb essential in first person games with aiming, while third person melee games are better with a controller. The menus should definitely support mouse though, it reminds me of old dos games with keyboard menus.

I have the game on origin. I really enjoyed fallen order and the combat in this one is better, with additional stances for your light saber and even a pistol/light saber option.

Running a 13900k and 4090 with 32gb of ddr5 ram and I've only played 1hr 30min before deciding to wait on patches.

Performance at 4k epic settings with FSR set to quality, with ray tracing seemed fine in the beginning. 80-90fps on the opening section of the game. There are drops to 70 at some points but I didnt notice any lag.

Things took a turn for the worst when you meet up with some of your crew on the first level. That's where I started seeing the game drop to 40-50fps and noticed stutter much more frequently. It wasn't as smooth to play and it was definitely noticeable.

I cant comment on any of the open world portion as I stopped playing figuring it would just be similar performance to what I saw in the later portion of the first level or prologue.

I think dlss would be nice to have here. Changing some of the graphics options didn't help much or as much as I think it should improve performance wise.

I noticed something a bit weird that might shine a light on the stuttering.
I was doing a few run-throughs of the perp walk at the beginning to get a feeling for the gfx options.
First walk through is stuttery as hell, particularly when you are flying.
If I restart a walk through it's fine, no frame time spikes.
It's like the game has to stream resources in the first time or do some shader shenanigans and after that it's fine.
Which suggests that they could spend a bit longer loading stuff at the beginning and have less stutter. Mind you that might take more ram or vram depending on what's going on.

That is shader compilation stutter which has been a bane of PC gaming for the past several years.

*looks at signature* Ah yes, I can see you're the gamer on a budget!

I get your point though. I have a lot to catch up on but this is STAR WARS!!!!

*whispering*
Thats the guy i always keep chasing..

And EVERYTIME i finally caught up, he opens his garage, and i see something that outdoes me just by a tad bit.
*goes off kicking the can*

I will one up him this August when Storm Peak comes out, as i will either be on that or a W-3435X with a glorious 112-128X PCI-E 5.0 Lanes, and show you guys what monster comes out from having ALL those PCI-E Lanes in a Gamers hands.

The Source sucks but it is what it is... DLSS3 modded into the game doubles the frame rate.

im actually waiting for DLSS to reattempt to play it.
I know its way more playable now after the patch, but i have other stuff in the bucket for now.

I recommend that gamers stop buying from EA to have a better gaming experience.

LOL disable HDR... they trying to destroy the OLED market, saying HDR ruins gaming performance.
Another scapegoat to pass blame.

Seems like they did a great job on the ray tracing decisions for consoles. I will post the vid here since the analysis of the image quality should carry over to PC. With of course, the ability to maintain higher resolution being possible for the PCMR.

To use kyb&mouse in the menus you evidently have to highlight it with the mouse then use the A&D keys to change the options.

Not sure if it's a good implementation since PS5 performance mode has ray tracing enabled and you can not disable it. So the game is having a hard time keeping 60fps and also looks pretty blurry combined with the stutters too.

They should have made the RT togglable like the PC version or offer performance+RT and performance without RT.

Patch today for pc but non ray tracing specific for pc.

Enjoyed Fallen Order more than I planned to. I don't consider myself a SW fan by any means but that game was solid. One of the first games I ever played on PC was the original Dark Forces and, although I don't believe I ever got audio working on whatever glorified paperweight PC I used at the time, I had a lot of fun with that game back in the day.

I'll certainly give this one a try at some point.

Yeah, I noticed a big fps drop around this point. The game ran ok until then but is now borderline unplayable. I might just wait a month or two for patches.

Dark Forces in 4K, if interested:

I heard RedFall also bomb'd.

People saying that is also unplayable.

So far the only game which runs on even dog dookie, is Dead Island 2.
That is so far the only game with what i call an acceptable launch.

Seems like getting a game which does not require massive amount of patches to fix do not exist anymore.

I played after the PC patch last night. Same area from the start of the game up until you meet with your companions.

I never turned off raytracing previously so I don't know what the fps with non ray tracing was before the patch.

With FSR disabled and everything on epic settings, RT also disabled I get 60-70fps at 4k and instead of dropping to 40's it drops to 50's now in heavy areas.

With FSR on quality and ray tracing off, the fps stays up in the 100's. There are still shader compiler stutters no matter what settings you use.

With FSR disabled and ray tracing turned on, native 4k I see 40-50fps and it does get into the high 60's at times. But there are frequent drops here.

I would say it still needs performance improvements on the ray tracing settings. Unfortunately because it's an amd sponsored title, I don't think they will improve much in the future. Similar titles like Callisto protocol didn't go up in frames after several patches.

The GPU usage is 50% or less during the big fps drops. The RT is somehow hammering the CPU instead of GPU. I'll try playing with it turned off.
Yes. There was a fine gentleman here who would tell you at this point that Raptor Lake excels at BVH structure building which is what hammers the CPU during RT. Unfortunately, the fella rage quit the forums. I hope he's lurking around here and returns for shedding some light on this latest RT fiasco.

I'll play it in a few years

- That's 100% my MO at this point. Just patient game everything. Saves me a ton of money, and I get nice fully patched completely functional games.

Outside of pure casuals who only show up for one game a decade (my wife and Hogwarts Legacy for example) I honestly don't understand the FOMO regular gamers have that possesses them to immediately buy and play something on launch day.

Seems it was all much ado about nothing. Even the Medium Preset without raytracing looks good enough. Raytracing adds almost NOTHING, unless you squint and start ogling at the graphics instead of enjoying the game. I think raytracing only makes sense in low lit environments with light shining through cracks or windows etc. So maybe like a survival horror game.

I dunno I'm not getting frames close to what the Tom's hardware review is getting. On my end I'm seeing a negligible difference in fps, about 10-15 more with native (no fsr) and ray tracing off at 4k. The fps drops are also still there so I don't mind playing it with RTX on at the end of the day.

Even with RTX off I see drops to the 44-50fps range and then back up.

The game still doesn't properly load shaders. It displays the same shader loading screen everytime you exit and go back into the game.

It gets single thread CPU bottlenecked in several areas, and reducing graphics settings doesn't help. Like the scene with the squadmates in the intro level or the home base area on Koboh. I still like the game a lot though.
