I can't understand why people buy those keys when they're just talking yourself into it not being piracy because you gave someone some money for it. Not like it's difficult to pirate Windows 10 or 11. Microsoft even considers it piracy if you buy an OEM license to use on your own system as opposed to a system you sell and provide support for.
It's weird to buy grey market keys. You're basically paying someone else to pirate and helping to support an organized criminal underworld.

Considering the cost of a W11 retail license and that the OS is really the thing that lets you use your computer, it's a real steal on a per day cost for a system that could last 2+ years. And if it's a retail license, you can keep using it if you upgrade. Given the OS lifecycle, you could be using a single license for just $10/yr.

For my recent W11 acquisition, I didn't even bother with an OEM key, since the costs are nearly equal to retail now. Plus, the retail license is far more flexible.

I 100% understand piracy for Windows and will never pay for a cent for it. But I'll never pay someone else so I can pirate it either. They were clear as day a monopoly in the late 90s when the government was making empty threats to break the company up as one. The fact that the Steam Deck uses Linux makes me hopeful I'll be able to finally ditch Redmond from my desktop gaming PC in the not too distant future, as I have preferred Linux to Windows for desktop use for 20 years but in 2014 when I got back into PC gaming had to install Windows for DirectX.

Microsoft charges different rates for Windows in different regions and - especially for OEMs - for different sales prices.
That price difference is the origin of the grey market. I wouldn't buy those keys because it violates Microsoft's licensing agreements and they may revoke them at any time.

For a cheap PC - using something like a GTX 3050 6GB - it is hard to justify spending $125 on a Windows license.

It will get reviewed. Nvidia may not provide samples with the usual press kit, but it'll get reviewed. No way Aussie Steve will ignore it.

It has to come to retail if Nvidia isn't completely abandoning the under $200 market. As they are said to be ending production of all 16 series. I think I read the full 3050 is getting axed too? This cutdown version will be popular with OEM and S.I. because power, heat, and size all fit the bill. RTX branding seals the deal.

One more Devil's Advocate point I'll make.

It replaces the 1650 and 1630 at under $200. By comparison it will be an impressive upgrade. 50% more vram and RTX features. Nvidia is in the position where the only real competition they have is their own products. This 3050 is going to look like a hero vs those older cards.

Steve gets it

Will be interesting to see if it wins the Ferengi math vs the $100 A380 in gaming.

70W TDP sounds pretty nice, other than that, they should have named it 3040 or something else.

It'll probably end up being a hair faster than a 1650 Super, which will be 3.5 years old and was $20 cheaper than this at launch. Still, it'll be the fastest slot powered thing available and DLSS will help make it a lot more usable than the 70W 1650 non-super.
Probably good card, but $180USD seems a little steep.

It will be faster than Mobile 3050. We are looking at something like 5000 PTS in 3DMark TS Graphics. Thats not bad at all.

I love that we are going to get Passive GPU, again.

Palit has a passive model coming. Also has a DVI port for some reason.

That's actually pretty cool. DVI is tough to find now, and my wife's main display is one of those early Korean 27" 1440p monitors that only supports DL DVI.

Compubase has a few benchmarks. Timespy gets 4,869 which makes it 30% slower than the 3050 8 GB. 26% slower in Cyberpunk.
1650 Super average is 4698, so in the end it's 3-4% faster than the 1650 Super. No surprises really. At least it's priced pretty well for what it is. RTX 3050 8GB's are still bottoming out at $220, so this is a decent $50 cheaper

Time Spy isn't too much higher than my A380 with an R5 5600 of 4451. The Port Royal score is much better, as my A380 only scores 1697. I don't have Phantom Liberty to compare.

50% more ram, most of the RTX feature set, and slot powered are value added too.

It’s a new 1660 but with barebones RTX and lower power consumption. That’s… fine?

You came conspicuously close to getting a surprise GTX 980ti in the mail. It looks like maybe this would be pretty close to the same punch but at a ludicrously lower power draw. Maybe one of these will have to do by proxy? You can put an EVGA sticker on it

I like that this will keep all of the used office boxes with OG ZEN, i7s, and Xeons gaming it up for years to come. No rebar issues. No x4 PCIe nonsense. No crippled media engines. No SATA to PCIe adapters. No worries about that proprietary 200-300W PSU. LP model for those SFF OEM boxes. It's the new king of the niche, and it's a sizeable niche.
