LOVED the first Rainbow Six game back in '98. Played online a lot, but never was anything special. Now that I think about it, I actually miss the online matches that were one death per round. My favorite map was the one with the large house. One team spawned inside, the other out in the back yard at the bottom of the hill....multiple entry points into the house. Awesome, awesome map.

Loved that Game, its what got me into multiplayer games. Used to play with a Clan called KSK(Krazy Skilled Killerz) on Mplayer. Went by the screen name KSK - Rifter.

I then got VERY addicted to Unreal Tournament 99 assault mode and stopped playing R6.

The original rainbow 6 was one of the best FPS multiplayer games of all time, IMO. I wish I would have never stopped playing, I'm trying to get back into playing the game. Maybe the graphics are a little out of date but I loved how this game functioned, not like COD games where you get to respawn 30 times in a game. You have one life and 1 bullet can kill you, I loved it, so much better than these new games and that’s why I'm trying to start playing this game again.

There is a site called voobly that still host R6 and there are a few people that still play there but it would be awesome to get a large group playing again. I think this is the only site that still host R6. If you want to play look up voobly and join its free and there is a link on the R6 lobby that will take you to a website where you can download all of the patches, mods and the game to play. It’s all free, come over and play, please. Let’s get this game going again, hope to see some of you playing.

That game was awesome, RS was even better.

I was literally addicted to both of them. I spent almost all the time from when I got home from school until I went to bed playing those games. They had pretty solid graphics for their day and the gameplay was amazing as well (I wish they had rounds instead of sending you back to the lobby though).

Is there any way for them to re-release the game with revamped graphics? like half-life?
The game play and maps were just too awesome.

If there were Pun, I'd buy it.

The way the rounds worked was very unique. One of the best things about it was the way you chatted with everyone when you died.

Something was just very communal. You almost had to interact with everyone, even the way mplayer and zone worked with the rooms was forcing you to speak with others.

I remember playing the game, and then reading the book and being like "Ding Chavez!!! I know you!"

Beat me to it.

I still have a few fond memories. In a 1v1 with my friend, we ran into the same room and immediately threw frags at each other. However, we instinctively ran forward when we saw a grenade being lobbed at us, so we ran by each other and ended up dying to our own frags.

Another time, I had horrible lag and I was trying out for a clan. We ended up on that one canyon/valley map, but I picked the wrong primary and ended up with the Benelli. I managed to sneak up from behind on the recruiter, but I unloaded all my rounds on him and he started to run away. As I was reloading, chasing him down, and shooting, he turned around and I was dead.

I miss those days.

Haven't in years. I was really into the original when it was unique. Played Rogue Spear on LAN extensively for a year or two. We had names for all the times the AI would cheat.

"One way glass guy" for example, in the tower in the train yard. If you sit there all day shooting him and nothing would happen, but then he would 1 shot you with a pistol from 300 yards away.

Then there is "Superman", who would just walk right towards you taking 30 rounds in the chest from your AK so he could 1 shot you in the face point blank.

And the "aaahhhh Jesus...." guy, the guy you kill who stands up and twirls around screaming "aaaahhhh Jesus" for 45 seconds after you kill him providing cover for the guy behind him, and miraculously, the bad guy can shoot through the body but you can't, etc.

Good times... lots and lots of late night caffeine loaded nights with that game. We even had our friend's kids playing with us on the LAN, down to a 4 yr old

man, I loved rainbow 6. What was the expansion pack called? I remember trying to play it over the modem (did that game have a direct modem connection? Or was it all "online"?) and we couldn't play because he had the expansion pack installed and I didn't. So, hopped on the bike and rode over to his house, got the disc, rode back, installed it, and we were off to the races. That was 13 years ago.

Funny the things you remember after such a long time.

Couldn't remember the maps names but after hearing them, they're all coming back, like estate and hacienda.

I also remember in my group of friends that played the game the weapons I wasn't allowed to use. It started with just the big sniper rifle, then the smaller sniper rifle, then I wasn't allowed to use medium range weapons.....my friends sucked at video games.

Raises hand.

I remember setting up my first LAN at my brothers house so we could do some coop.
Planning the missions was the best part of this game. I wish they would put that back into the newer R6 games.

This game also got me into reading Tom Clancy books. Great game!

Wow, never knew atot has such a rainbowsix fan base. Like many of you, I was spent countless hours playing both single and multiplayer on the zone, lol. I never had read any of the books, although ive always wanted too. But never got around to it. I did however buy a strategy guide, which I still have for the original Rogue Spear. The guide is as thick as the book. I used to take it to school and read up on it and get myself HYPED to play it. Then School ended and I literally had to ditch my friends, hop on my bike and make record time getting home just to try out my ideas the guide gave me.

One thing my brother (another R6 fan) and I do is, even up to now, yell out whatever the terrorist were yelling in rogue spear in other games. BEEGEEEEEEEE!! LEPATENIA! TRIOLGAA! TRIOLGAA,TRIOLGAA!....or my personal favorite......HUA!?....I dont know what they exactly translate too, but i guess its a inside joke between me and my brother. lol

Anyone else get AMPED back in the day with the original rogue spear intro?

I'm [ADP]McDeath from Ottawa (now Toronto), real name Eric. I just so happened to be bored to death at work just now clicking on the "Random article" button on Wikipedia, and of all things I stumbled on the page for Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six (the book). One thing led to another, and next thing you know I'm googling my old handle and I find this page!

How's it going Pun?! Last I remember, you were in med. school at NYC, or something like that... you also had a brother who played every once in a while, but I can't recall his name. Man, that's been a while.

R6 was the best game ever, and I've played a whole lot of games. The teamwork, the great communities from Mplayer and Zone, the excessive camping on maps like Airport and Road, the pre-firing and even the constant accusations of cheating (I never once cheated!), it was just a whole lot of fun. I'd do anything to turn back the clock!

Right now I'm into Gran Turismo 5 (PS3), NHL11 (PS3) and Starcraft 2 (PC). I haven't really looked into the newer FPS games like Call of Duty: Black Ops, but I'd be down to trying anything if there's teamwork involved.

I'll bookmark this site and check back, otherwise you can find my email in my forum profile. Let's talk!

XL2000 was created by Barry and Damage. I still speak to Barry every day as we're childhood friends. Here's a cache of that site before it went down, there's a Ladder link on the left if you can find it:

My favourite map was definitely Athlete's Village. Being the last person alive on your team and hiding in the heating/engine rooms or whatever they were, LOL. After reading this thread I remember all the great maps: Hacienda, Estate, Mint, Oil Rig, Amazon...

Yes, along with Rogue Spear.

Also did a lot of Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight and X-Wing Alliance.

All played on the "Microsoft Gaming Zone" on rockin' 56k. My name was SFJ_SEALs.

I guess it would have been '98-2000ish. Those were the days.

Redstorm should re-release this game. I am sure it'll be a huge hit, especially with online community.
