I've read that you can't travel from one location to the next, but instead just click stuff and load screen yourself everywhere.

It's map, load sceen, map, load screen, map, load screen, can move on a planet. Oh and the city map is a joke, no it's worse than a joke, it's a crime against humanity.

Well that's two disappointing games out of the way(F04/Starfield).

If next Elder Scrolls flops Bethesda is finished.

This is nothing more than a looter shooter and a loading screen simulator. How in the world can you have a space game without space exploration. What's the point of a 1000 planets if you just click "go to" on a menu.

Soulless game with no immersion. Freelancer is still the king.

God help us if Chris Roberts has to save the space genre. At least No Mans Sky is looking good these days.

People acting like children that dropped their ice cream cones, and homie is playing it on an APU. 🦾 It runs better than a GTX 1650.

This doesn't sound good. I am already reading the game is too repetitive, empty lands, and not open world. Hopefully this is not going to be on release tomorrow LOL

LULZ at Bethesda will fail. It's the number 2 SP game on Steam with almost 250K player peak and it's still in early access. That doesn't count console or all of the players using PC gamepass.

Hell, the DLSS mod has almost a quarter of a million downloads already. This game is going to make lots of money.

Too much haterade guzzling. Everyone has to tell you how much they don't want to play this game. Dis you?

Does this game really justify the CPU requirements? And this engine seems to be a worst case scenario for Zen processors vs Intel.

Now that Jedi survivor has dlss implementation in the latest patch, there's really no reason why this game can't have it. Granted we may need to wait 6-7 months after launch.

I haven't played this but I'm paying attention to it a lot because I loved Skyrim.

I watched the first 45 minutes they released. The opening is nowhere as gripping. And it looks like the game is nothing groundbreaking based on reviews.

Damn, I just saw IGN gave it.. not 9, not even a safe 8, but 7. Wow.

The paid Xbox supporters on twitter are so butt hurt over the 7 they launched a campaign of derision & griefing over it. First they try and haul them over the coals then when called out on their crap they hide behind "we didn't tell people to harass them" despite a lot of social engineering people in that direction. For the record I gave it a 6, too many missing features, settings & space flight/exploration is just boring & loading screen infested. THe less said about facial/hair textures going missing on NPC's & Bethesda Physics going on the better.

As for when it gets "gripping" I keep seeing 15 hours quoted as to when that happens. I am at 10 hours and waiting for mods and haven't foubnd it gripping yet. Fallout 4, Skyrim get you in the first 2-4 hours and that is part of why they had legs.

?? What does one have to do with the other? Is there a limited supply of DLSS juice that Respawn was hoarding?

Yeah I just don’t get the toxic environment for games lately. Starfield doesn’t interest me other than reading about it just because there is so much talk. Why hate a game? Just don’t buy the damn thing.
Why write a goodbye letter to games? Nobody gives a crap.
Play games you like, buy games at an affordable price (for you), enjoy the stuff you play.
I cannot understand why people spread toxic crap about games as in a poster literally would be happy hearing someone say “I am so sad that I bought Starfield, the money I spent on it made me miss a car payment. I am so sorry I bought this”
Why take joy in someone’s sorrow it is not healthy to do that. Why ruin a fun experience for someone who is playing now? What do you get doing that?

Getting off my soap box and going back to reading about the game.
Have fun with it guys and please post fun images of game play.

Well, IGN also gave D4 a 9, we all know how much you love that game...

Opinions seem all all over the place. David Jaffe (Twisted Metal and original God of War director) has said it is in his the top 3 games of all time. Asmongold hates it while Shroud has streamed it almost nonstop since launch. A few criticisms that seem universal: too many loading screens, slow start and poor menus.

Numbers don't really mean much in the end. Everyone's taste is different.

Seems like there is a contracted time frame that AMD sponsored titles have to sit with FSR before they can have DLSS. All they did was check the box in UE 4 but they didn't even test it as it caused blurriness and artifacting. Which was resolved by people replacing the DLSS dll file with the latest one.

I had already finished Jedi Survivor months ago so this is really too late. At least there are DLSS mods now for starfield. I have yet to try the frame generation mod yet, there is one posted on nexus.

I have not went back and played Jedi survivor since the second patch. I'll keep it installed and hopefully get through it one day. But I'm interested in seeing how it does with DLSS now.

As for Starfield, I saw people kept saying on Reddit that the frame generation mod that you pay for is only a one time $5 payment. Which I disagree with because the mod itself will get updated. He is on beta 3 or 4 right now? The game will get updates which may force the modder to update his mod in return.

If you only subscribe to the Patreon once to get the mod and then unsubscribe, you will have to resubscribe and continue paying $5 to get the updated versions.

I'm all for supporting a Dev's work but I don't want to sign up for yet another subscription. I'll give him $20 or something if it's a one time payment that includes future updates.

The paid version of the frame generation mod has been cracked. He updated to beta4 as you mentioned and it got cracked again in an hour. All of his mods have been cracked now actually. Even the ones for older titles like RDR2.

I’ve still yet to try any frame gen mods at all. Supposedly the one on nexus has some issues with crashing that the one from puredark doesn’t have since there was an update.

I won't lie, I knew absolutely nothing about this game and I honestly thought people were referring to Star Citizen as Starfield when I'd hear people mention this game (I genuinely thought they were the same thing). Now a buddy of mine at work has played this and won't stop talking about how it's the greatest game he's ever played in his life and keeps referring to it as "Fallout in space" which that title alone makes me want to play it.

Still, with the game not even being released yet, maybe all these complaints I've been reading here and everywhere else will be fixed in a year or two when it goes on sale and I finally buy it. I know it's Bethesda, but surely even they can iron out most of the more glaring issues in that kind of time frame...

Had it and have played on and off since the 9/1. My thoughts:

This game is polarizing because I feel people fall into two camps: people that want to play the latest and greatest BGS game, and people who expected Fallout Citizen or No Man's Skyrim. The game can be very immersion breaking if you test the boundaries. You can watch a video of people discharging weapons in a city, and none of the NPCs bat an eye. It turns out that you can fly to Pluto, but it's not there. Landing on planets gives you a mostly flat rocky surface to explore with some mineral nodes you can mine, and no real incentive to do either. Some of the NPCs look like garbage and give you the bug eye look.

My own experience has been mostly smooth on a 7900x paired with a 6950XT on a 1440p UW monitor with mostly high/ultra settings. I'm not hitting high frames here, but the experience isn't jarring or laggy either. AMD's Radeon software pegs me at mid 40's for FPS on average. I think the game looks nice overall, but some of the character models are still not quite as expressive like they are in BG3, even less-so for unimportant NPCs.

Whichever reviewer says they don't have a lot in the way of bugs must either be lying or incredibly lucky. Here's my collection of bugs:

1) Out the gate there was a weird shadowy mirror image effect around most objects due to FSR 2. So I turned that off pretty quickly, and it went away.

2) Sometimes my companion will "forget" to wear their space suit when going from an indoor area to an area that requires one. It's kinda funny to see your companion fighting alongside you on the surface of the moon in naught but a leather jacket and leggings.

3) I saw a corpse (one that was already dead when I arrived) fly around erratically like it was getting kicked around by an angry spirit.

4) Crash to desktop. To be fair, it's only happened on my second play session on 9/2. But that day it happened over and over again that day, but not once since. Basically I'd be playing the game one minute, and then BAM, I'm staring at my desktop. One time the game visibly froze. After I updated my graphics card driver, it gave me a BSOD. I then updated my BIOS and enabled XMP on my ram (to get to DDR5 6000), and was good ever since.

I don't know if the BIOS and and XMP thing made a difference; all the crashes happened on Luna, and I haven't returned there since. But while it was happening, it was making the game almost unplayable. At any second, and with no warning, I could lose my progress. If you search the Starfield subreddit, you can see I'm not the only guy that had (or maybe has) this issue. My rig, while new, has never had any freezes or crashes with anything else I've done with it (it's only been a month though).

While I wish I could leave out my space exploration fantasy more, it seems like that runs counter to what the game is best at. I've heard from several reviewers that you should engage with the main plotline. I'm having fun however, and I'm going to keep playing.

I am VERY excited for the expansions/mods for this game.
