Shipments of integrated and discrete graphics processing units dropped to a 10-year low in the third quarter as PC OEMs reduced procurements of CPUs, and gamers lowered their purchases of existing graphics cards while waiting for next-generation products. In contrast, miners ceased to buy graphics boards due to changes that happened to Ethereum. In general, sales of standalone graphics cards for desktops hit a multi-year low.

Wow, Nvidia picked a great time to launch their extortionately priced 4000 series.

I've been using DLSS 3 with A Plague Tale Requiem and I haven't noticed any kind of graphical anomalies. Of course that is during gameplay, but if you scrutinize each frame I'm sure there would be discrepancies.

However, this technology is going to improve over time with driver updates so whatever issues there are could very well be resolved or at the very least, ameliorated in the future. Nvidia's ability to improve their products via software optimizations is not to be underestimated.

@Carfax83

It seems to heavily depend on the game and your sensitivity to artifacts. A Plague Tale is a slow game, as far as I've seen. DLSS 3 fares worst with fast motion.

You're likely correct about this. However, my point still stands I think. Nvidia's ability to improve deficiencies via software has always been remarkable. Driver updates are going to improve those areas where DLSS 3 is weakest in.

It's a new technology after all and will take time to improve, just like regular DLSS upscaling did.

- I picked up a used 6800XT for $450 all in (Shipping + Taxes) so I'm out of the rat race for hopefully a good long while here.

People who are as price conscious as I am should really look into the used market a bit more if they're hoping to shave some additional dollars off a card. Ebay will give you a 30 day (from delivery) "buyer protection" coverage and if the card you get doesn't work you can absolutely ship it back and get a refund (had to do that with a 3080 10GB I initially bought that had some bad ram modules on it).

Realistically a card that works for 30 days across a wide range of games is not likely to give up the ghost soon, especially if its a current gen card.

Meh used market prices are way too high relative to new for it to be enticing to me at all when I know the card I'd be buying has 10,000 hours of mining ethereum on it. A 20% discount to get something on the wrong side of the bathtub curve isn't a deal to me at all.

Curious why you are using DLSS 3 with a 4090 on that game? At max settings in 4K native that card gets nearly 100FPS. And with DLSS 3 making input latency notably worse, what do you gain by running it at super high FPS?

This game is graphically very heavy, having no last gen console baggage to deal with and the draw distances and LoD are off the charts. The average FPS across the entire game may be around 100 FPS at 4K native, but there are spots where it will drop into the 70s and even upper 60s without DLSS. And some of that is due to bad optimization. I posted some screens a while back in another thread that showed how the occlusion culling in one of the towns was really bad because the framerate would drop significantly due to the GPU usage dropping. Now you'd think the GPU usage dropped because of a CPU bottleneck, but that wasn't the case because the CPU usage was average and wasn't even close to being maxed out. So I think in that one area the occlusion culling wasn't properly optimized and that caused to GPU usage to drop, bringing the framerate down in the process.

Ahh, I do recall that post. I think I would opt for DLSS 2.x in your case . You still get a big FPS boost, but without weird UI interface issues and odd flickering around movement that DLSS 3 has..

From the deep dive reviews that a few sites did, they said that DLSS 3 only really worked well if you were already pulling over 100 FPS where unless you cared about the latency, the frame times were so short it becomes practically impossible to notice a bad frame because it's not displayed long enough. Games with issues obviously still had problems because glitchy behavior across multiple frames becomes easily noticeable.

I started out using DLSS 2 on quality mode, but this game has screen tearing regardless of framerate and it was more noticeable with DLSS 2 than with DLSS 3. I never noticed any kind of flickering or artifacts with DLSS 3 turned on.
