I have 2 50 gallon waters heaters for 3 people. I shut one of them down. I may even install a by pass valve and drain the unused one.

Good lord that is a bunch of hot water for 3 people.
My wife takes really long showers and our 50 gallon works great and we never run out.

4 hummingbird feeders (I'm told if you just have one, some HB will try to chase all the others off).

I grew up in Philly, row homes and all. Every block had a savings and loan, a bar, a funeral home and a corner store- well most had most of these.

I had to feed myself most days so I went to the store and bought Chef Boy-Ar-Dee spaghetti with meat sauce. It was a box of dried pasta, a can of meat sauce and a small can of italian hard grated cheese. In those days people would actually cook things to one degree or another, and I had that more often that I can count. Mushy pastoid in a can? NOPE.

Oh, I'm picking up a used kevlar canoe, a Swift, at a ridiculously low price. I need to do some work on the seats but if you price new canoes 3K isn't unusual new, 2k used.
When I was a kid a neighbor boy somehow gave me the idea of Chef Boyardee canned spaghetti (he got it at home, I was jealous). I got the idea to lobby my mom to buy a case (unfortunately, she did!). This was NOT 3 part, it was just IT, whatever it was, in a single can. I got very tired of it really really fast, never got close to finishing it. I hated it! I'd never ever think of eating canned spaghetti again.

I take really quick showers. 20 years of taking submarine showers is a hard habit to break.

Home Depot owns the brand. We put our organic waste in a bin for it and it is collected weekly. Cooking oil in container and goes out with the organic waste.
Outside of San Francisco, this isn't something that Americans care enough to do. Some day...

Pls to be reporting back if you like. I'm especially curious about battery life and auto re-pairing
Auto re-pairing? My phone is a Samsung Galaxy, and the BT connection is solid. No idea how that varies with other phone brands.

It was an impulse purchase, I wasn't actually looking to buy a new smart watch. I'm going to keep it as it seems to be fine. Per reviews, the Watch5 Pro is big and thick. Battery life seems okay; that's something that these modern smartwatches don't do well enough. 1-2 days is kind of lame, and I'm not willing to switch to some sketchy brand that has great battery life. I used to get several days of battery life from my Fitbit Versa 2 but it was a very simple device in comparison. I'm pretty sure it didn't have an app store, so it was limited to a few curated apps that came with it. Having said that, I've using probably no more than 5% of the full capabilities of the new watch, and am not yet motivated to learn what it can do. But the Versa 2 is now four years old, so I was usually charging it every couple days anyway.

Re-charging the Versa 2 would take no more than 20 minutes. The new one takes about 90 minutes to go from near empty to 100%. Wireless charging is slower than conductive charging. In short, the hardware is way better than the Versa 2, but the Samsung Health app seems a bit meh so far.

The bill for the water heater came in, was pretty close on my guess. $5,159.55 Ka ching...

Part of me has buyer's remorse for paying that much for a water heater, but I'll see how much I save over time, and it might make it worth it. I could have saved if I installed it myself but I just wanted it done and got lazy. Once winter is over I want to look into if it's possible to suspend my gas service seasonally to save on the fixed fees, since I'll only need gas in winter now, and once I setup the wood stove I can probably even ride it out for a few months into winter. I have a feeling there is a catch though, either they charge a fee to do it, or they still charge the fixed fees anyway. Otherwise more people with electric water heaters would be doing this. But it's worth inquiring.

As far as hydro usage goes I don't think it will make too big of a dent, this is what a typical day looks like now. This is a day where I was at work so the bumps are most likely the water heater kicking on. Once I automate it and have it run only during off peak it will be even better but I'll wait at least a few months before I do any of that, so I can get a baseline.

They have started programs in New York City in some parts already. I've been on a couple dates with people who use their local composting container. The container is locked and only opens for people who live in a certain block radius using an app. So it's close by and convenient and can't get accessed by passerbys or non locals.

Would have been good practice for the luxury totally self sufficient off-grid property to practice by installing it yourself. Just trying to be helpful. I want you to be prepared for situations that arise.

More people than you’d expect do it around me too. I pay $100 yearly for a bin and composting service to come by and pick it up. I’d say somewhere around 10% of houses in nearby neighborhoods do it and that’s a random service not sanctioned by the city.

It's begun here in L.A. County as well. I just think it's going to take a really long time to change people's behaviors, but urbanites will be more receptive. I know SF has drastically cut down the trash it sends to landfills over a decade, so it's possible. Sadly there are still a lot of people that don't recycle cans and paper packaging, for various reasons. Plastic is pretty much a lost cause, it seems.

Oh yeah it definitely is going to take a while. It's hard enough as it is to change people's habits, but when you have half the country fighting anything environmentally positive that libruls do as woke, it's just going to be even harder.

I remember going to Germany in 1988 for 2 weeks when I was 12 with my family to visit our friends. I was walking around the streets in 1988 and there was always a garbage bin and two recycling bins everywhere. They were all enclosed and a door mechanism or whatever to put things in.

There are other first world countries way ahead of us for this shit for some reason.

A couple Christmases ago my sister wanted a bear proof compost container from this company she liked. It was like 500 bucks so my mom and I split it for.

I think the reason there are two of them is the master bathtub is a huge jetted thing that a single 50 wouldn't be able to fill. For reasons that I've never understood, large bathtubs appear to be a requirement in southern homes. I wanted to fill it with dirt and grow flowers, the wife wouldn't allow it.
My master shower is a dual control setup, and it's bigger than the entire master bath in my last house. The place is the southern version of "upscale", big, a little cheese in places, and affordable. Though it's becoming a custom home as I change the things I don't like.

That's why I shut one down. Seems world class stupid to keep a hundred gallons of water stewing when we never use more than 40. Though I did light it up when my daughter and two grand kids came to visit, ran all three showers at the same time and back to back, never ran out of hot water.
