I have 2 50 gallon waters heaters for 3 people. I shut one of them down. I may even install a by pass valve and drain the unused one.
But he just needs a saw and a mallet now to process human remains.

When I was a kid a neighbor boy somehow gave me the idea of Chef Boyardee canned spaghetti (he got it at home, I was jealous). I got the idea to lobby my mom to buy a case (unfortunately, she did!). This was NOT 3 part, it was just IT, whatever it was, in a single can. I got very tired of it really really fast, never got close to finishing it. I hated it! I'd never ever think of eating canned spaghetti again.I grew up in Philly, row homes and all. Every block had a savings and loan, a bar, a funeral home and a corner store- well most had most of these.
I had to feed myself most days so I went to the store and bought Chef Boy-Ar-Dee spaghetti with meat sauce. It was a box of dried pasta, a can of meat sauce and a small can of italian hard grated cheese. In those days people would actually cook things to one degree or another, and I had that more often that I can count. Mushy pastoid in a can? NOPE.
Oh, I'm picking up a used kevlar canoe, a Swift, at a ridiculously low price. I need to do some work on the seats but if you price new canoes 3K isn't unusual new, 2k used.

five people here and we are fine with 50ga. So I have to wait a bit to shower after the kids do their rain forest recreation, big deal.
yeah I don't do long showers, the kids however do.I take really quick showers. 20 years of taking submarine showers is a hard habit to break.
Outside of San Francisco, this isn't something that Americans care enough to do. Some day...Home Depot owns the brand. We put our organic waste in a bin for it and it is collected weekly. Cooking oil in container and goes out with the organic waste.

They have started programs in New York City in some parts already. I've been on a couple dates with people who use their local composting container. The container is locked and only opens for people who live in a certain block radius using an app. So it's close by and convenient and can't get accessed by passerbys or non locals.Outside of San Francisco, this isn't something that Americans care enough to do. Part of me has buyer's remorse for paying that much for a water heater, but I'll see how much I save over time, and it might make it worth it. I could have saved if I installed it myself but I just wanted it done and got lazy. Once winter is over I want to look into if it's possible to suspend my gas service seasonally to save on the fixed fees, since I'll only need gas in winter now, and once I setup the wood stove I can probably even ride it out for a few months into winter. I have a feeling there is a catch though, either they charge a fee to do it, or they still charge the fixed fees anyway. Otherwise more people with electric water heaters would be doing this. But it's worth inquiring.
As far as hydro usage goes I don't think it will make too big of a dent, this is what a typical day looks like now. This is a day where I was at work so the bumps are most likely the water heater kicking on. Once I automate it and have it run only during off peak it will be even better but I'll wait at least a few months before I do any of that, so I can get a baseline.
More people than you’d expect do it around me too. I pay $100 yearly for a bin and composting service to come by and pick it up. It's begun here in L.A. County as well. I just think it's going to take a really long time to change people's behaviors, but urbanites will be more receptive. I know SF has drastically cut down the trash it sends to landfills over a decade, so it's possible. Sadly there are still a lot of people that don't recycle cans and paper packaging, for various reasons. I think the reason there are two of them is the master bathtub is a huge jetted thing that a single 50 wouldn't be able to fill. For reasons that I've never understood, large bathtubs appear to be a requirement in southern homes. That's why I shut one down. Seems world class stupid to keep a hundred gallons of water stewing when we never use more than 40. Though I did light it up when my daughter and two grand kids came to visit, ran all three showers at the same time and back to back, never ran out of hot water.five people here and we are fine with 50ga. Bro in law ran his finger through the table saw last Sun. Doc sewed it back on minus 1/8" for the saw tax.Need to do some trim work so I bought some toys I’ve been wanting for a while rather than borrow them again.
