Discussion Ryzen CPU with Xilinx AI Engine: in the lab for testing!

Looks like AMD is full speed ahead with Xilinx (technology). They have dies ready in the lab for testing. Not sure which Zen core this could be, maybe a first test version of Zen5. I would assume that the Xilinx engine is a separate die. (probably stacked) Could also be a Zen4 as substitute...

Discussion Speculation: Zen 4 (EPYC 4 "Genoa", Ryzen 7000, etc.)

15% was in games for V-cache equivalent as an entire generation. The new generation is here now (tomorrow) So what do you think for games Zen4 compared to Zen3? I think 20%-25% average, so a little faster over Zen3 V-cache (about a half year from now we will also have zen4 V-cache but that's...

Question AMD moves Ryzen Zen 4 launch to same day as Intel's Raptor Lake

It would only be the sales that move 2 weeks. Making sure nobody calls it a paper launch, I don't know... Maybe then intel's CPU isn't newer, the latest CPU. Maybe don't give intel 2 weeks to set up an 'unfair' compare power-point to make Ryzen look bad, hurting the sales. If intel doesn't have...

Discussion Speculation: Zen 4 (EPYC 4 "Genoa", Ryzen 7000, etc.)

The PSB feature doesn't vendor lock it, it's the way they use it that vendor locks it. The problem is you need to do an extra effort to not vendor lock it and still be using it, but obviously they don't see the advantage in that for themself. The condition is that the CPU must recognise the...

    Discussion Power (TDP) ZEN4, AM4 vs AM5, Power stage Vcore load 80A - 90A - 105A

Since AMD CPU TDP doesn't mean as much as we would want it to mean: Checking new motherboards of AM5, Vcore power stage seems to be 80A, 90A or 105A. When we look at the AM4 motherboards it's more like 50A, 60A or 70A. (although 40A also exist) high range: 105A / 70A = +50% average current low...

FYI they changed the words on the website recent launch -> recent announcement (August 4) https://explore.amd.com/mte/aug-2022-component/register Not sure if this is an announcement that still has to come before Friday or if they refer to old announcements. Maybe they just wrote it down wrong...

Discussion Speculation: Zen 4 (EPYC 4 "Genoa", Ryzen 7000, etc.)

If true, Userbenchmark will really need to update their test software again for some reason. ;) Anyway the game score is what will mainly matter, imagine that AMD doesn't even have to release the +64MB version to beat or match the 13900K.... Then the intel CEO better gets used to cold showers...

recent means not long ago, (on august 4) But I also think it's more likely it's mid September. What this webinar is about exactly isn't really relevant, the time reference to a launch is the point

You missed key sentence on that page: So launch before August 4 ????? they really going to have to hurry up. or someone wrote down the wrong date. https://explore.amd.com/mte/aug-2022-component/register edit: could be the 'launch' event to say that they will be available in September.

Discussion Speculation: Zen 4 (EPYC 4 "Genoa", Ryzen 7000, etc.)

Looking at the 'leaked' benchmark results (if true). The ratio between non AVX-512 and AVX-512 on single thread look very similar to intel. I assume the main target was to remove this server advantage for intel and it looks like they got their target. Even if the 'leaks' aren't true, the...

Discussion Speculation: Zen 4 (EPYC 4 "Genoa", Ryzen 7000, etc.)

If zen5 doesn't come a year after zen4 they could fill the gap with zen4 on 4nm since they would already have done most of the work assuming zen4 mobile is not zen4c on 4nm.

Discussion Speculation: Zen 4 (EPYC 4 "Genoa", Ryzen 7000, etc.)

Since Zen4c is on 4nm and Phoenix Point is on 4nm. Doesn't that mean that it's likely that the mobile market wil get Zen4c instead of Zen4?

Moore's Law Is Dead said 7-9% IPC That's not bad, if it would be only a shrink it would be 0% IPC N5P gives probably +20% clock (vs 7nm), add some extra power budget to 125W and you get your +40% multi thread 16 core over Zen3. And Vcache version still has to come on top of that. Do you really...

He also talked about TDP, that there wasn't a profile 'fused' yet (since they haven't tried/decided that yet) somewhere between 105 and 170 but certainly not maxed out. I think they were shooting for an 125W TDP setting similar like the 12900k In that case they get 45% more speed for the same...

Discussion Speculation: Zen 4 (EPYC 4 "Genoa", Ryzen 7000, etc.)

About the blender demo AMD was like pressing gas and break at the same time by the marketing people. 1) They compared intel CPU and wisely said both are 16 cores. not mentioning the threads, (AMD has a Bulldozer trauma about 'counting as full cores') It's a fair comparison from CPU point of...

    Info 64MB V-Cache on 5XXX Zen3 Average +15% in Games

Keep in mind that volume production of V-cache dies is a subset of the current volume production line, it's not a parallel extra production line it's extra work on a limited number of the volume production dies. This means that AMD decides how many will be made or not. And first batches were at...

    Info 64MB V-Cache on 5XXX Zen3 Average +15% in Games

We may not be able to overclock the V-cache version. Would this be a heat issue or some timing issues that AMD fears. Seems a bit strange, if it's heat wouldn't we detect it that the overclock makes it too hot. Maybe it can break easily (mechanically) when getting hot.

Discussion Speculation: Zen 4 (EPYC 4 "Genoa", Ryzen 7000, etc.)

DDR5 prices are going in the right direction so it may not be a big issue releasing AM5 in Q3. Although intel has a good low thread load score with 'low prices'.... like 12700k. Not sure if multi-thread 8 Core Zen4 will beat the 12700K for only $400 (probably less by then.) Maybe they launch...

    Info 64MB V-Cache on 5XXX Zen3 Average +15% in Games

Very unlikely since we expect an IPC >+25% and possible all core clocks of 5Ghz. But it's possible that same target market isn't going to upgrade again so soon after an upgrade to 5950X3D (half year later)

    Info 64MB V-Cache on 5XXX Zen3 Average +15% in Games

Also adding an 5950X3D would make sense, price per die is about the same. Adding an 5900X3D may be too cheap to introduce it.

Discussion Speculation: Zen 4 (EPYC 4 "Genoa", Ryzen 7000, etc.)

The die size doesn't look very big for 16 cores (unless Zen4 is much bigger than Zen3), they removed a lot of L3 and L2 cache and replaced it with cores that are power limited. (not sure about L2 I hope it's more than 1MB) And the cost of stacking L3 cache is probably a lot cheaper than you...

Yes but the thing is that it is also shrinking and for stacking size is important hence extra work that needs to be done again so they may have decided to skip that part. (certainly since the amount of stacking request is limited for now)
